According to this article--and to reality--it is the strong baht that is keeping tourists out. Period. The Draconian visa rules are (as intended by the Thai gov't) driving long-stay expats out. That's an entirely different matter. Now, this is bad in some ways (breaking up families supported by honest, hard-working foreigners) and good in others (driving out foreign scam artists, dirtbags and mongers). But to say this is at all related to tourism is to misstate the reality. Tourists come and go with very little contact with IO. If you are here on a tourist visa, raising & supporting a Thai family, you are not a tourist. If you are here on a tourist visa, scamming, slumming & whoring, you are not a tourist either--certainly not a tourist Thailand wants.
Draconian immigration rules, not sure I would put it that strongly? You have to show that you have some reasonable capital amount around you, nothing wrong with that. If you don't have a capital in the bank here, you must show that you are transferring enough money each month and year to support yourself. Nothing wrong with that. You have to tell them where you live and confirm that every 3 months, nothing wrong with that. What's so draconian about those things? Try moving as an permanent expat to Singapore, Hong Kong, Switzerland or Monaco to find out what 'draconian' is.

Ask them to write down and sign the reason for your refusal.
But make sure you have a Thai with you, as they may do it, but in Thai and goodness knows what they would sign up to. My advice would be to reset and try to do it by post.

Your comment needs some explanation.
My licence expired Feb 2019. The expiry date of my new licence is Feb 2024 i.e 5 years-Standard
My friend 's licence expired June 2019 . The expiry date of this new licence is June 2025. i.e 6 years -not standard
Please explain this to remove the mystery.- bearing in mind that his first licence was granted in 2006 so the extra months were added years back.
It's Thailand, no further explanation necessary, or possible.

China is playing a brilliant, long term strategic game all over the world. Indebted Nations are becoming increasingly beholden to them, including the US, where China holds them by the goolies in terms of their National debt. Thailand and the neighbouring countries are building up massive amounts of debt with China and it will all come home to bite them at some point. They are also being allowed to buy up land, properties, and companies in Asia and nobody seems to care about the longer term impacts. It's said that most counties plans are in 5 or 10 year increments, but China's plans are for many decades of years. None of us here will live to see the inevitable longer term outcome, but you can bet that if you believe in freedom and democracy, then It will not be pretty.

Indeed so, pity that the English is imprecise, it makes a nonsense of the whole article.

Hi, could you let me know which brand of UV you are using.
The pool shop close to me is offering Emaux and Astral products.
I am definitely looking at auto-dosing. Not that much extra cost in my opinion.Nano Tech by Emaux. Been working fine for the past 2 years. New tubes needed every 4/5 years.

Anybody know what happens if your Birthday falls on a Leap Year, 29th February and you have 3 years before your next Birthday? As I don't think that the Thai calendar has Leap Years, it may be an odd issue. Just curious.

Yes, that actually was a delay mine is usually about a minute.
But, what is interesting is last week you started a negative thread about Pattaya how much you hate the place. And that you were on the highway leaving hoping never to return.
Yet, here you are.
So what's the deal?
Very very odd....
what's so odd about having to go to the Immigration office that you are registered with? What an odd comment. I go because I have to go.

A 90-day report took the OP 25 minutes in Jomtien???? I've been doing these for 12 years at that office and the longest it's ever taken is 10 minutes, usually less than 5 minutes and often just 2 minutes.
It was straight after lunch and there were 17 ahead of me, two of whom seemed to have issuers, which took and IO a bit of time to sort. I was happy with 25 minutes.

Yes, A UK permanent 'leave to remain' stamp in a foreign passport is not the same as a UK passport and does not confer the same privileges, so your spouse needs a visa to visit another country, dependant on her Citizenship. Certainly It makes an application to visit another country a fairly easy process. Before my Thai born wife became a British Citizen, with a UK passport, we visited the US, Canada and a lot of European countries, obtaining visas on her Thai passport. We didn't encounter any issues having them granted, provided she was returning to the UK after each visit abroad. That was the only proviso.

This was my first 90 day report following a trip to UK 3 months ago ( i did not complete a new TM30 on my return) and having been granted an Extension of Stay under the revised rules, also 3 months ago.
No new TM30 needed, it wasn't questioned. No TM47 needed, just presented my passport and got a new notification receipt.
Arrived at 1pm , I was out the door by 1:25pm.
I have to return on 7th August to show my bank book with the 800K still in there, although this was not mentioned at the 90 day desk.
Could not really have been easier.- 3

My mini ipad is now 5 years old. It has its touch screen problems and will not download the latest updates, Everything has been backed up, but to be honest, I want to wean myself off all Apple products, including my iPhone . They are now much more expensive and the android models are now much more advanced. I think Apple may well have priced themselves into a corner.

This is just one example of what could go wrong with using agents in the modern era of immigration. Until the rules on the 800k were changed, agents were basically a one stop deal - you paid your money, they fixed your papers, and you got your extension. No retrospective checks were made by immigration, and your next year extension was a totally unrelated matter, at which time you could use the same agent, a different one, or bring in the money to season and do it by yourself. Any 90 day reporting offered by agents was just there to sweeten the deal, but you could just as easily choose to file these yourself, and until April there was zero complication on 90 day reports in CW and most other places, as the TM30 was never asked for there.
Fast forward to the current situation - the role of the agent is now very different from before, in spite of their assurances that it's all business as usual. This is because of the unprecedented post seasoning requirements, meaning that no extension is really in the bag until 12 months after the event when applying for the next one. At this point the agent will have to confirm that both the pre-seasoning for the upcoming extension is taken care of, and the post-seasoning rules for the previous year's extension have been met retrospectively. Never before in the history of immigration has getting an extension involved proving that you complied by the rules pertaining to the previous year - this places the agent in a very powerful position, as the applicant has no choice but to keep using them. If any kind of overhaul or crackdown happens, or certain agents lose their connections, the person with the extension will be the one affected. I'll be curious to see what happens with extensions at the second renewal under this new system, and if prices are hiked to take into account the extra work involved. The whole thing smacks of one of those mafia deals you're lured into and can never walk away from.
Good explanation of the new situation for those using agents, that's it all in a nut shell.

It is news here. Thailand is probably one of the most ageist countries in the World, once you are past 50 you are basically finished here as a productive and useful member of society. They expect you to just fade away. It always makes me smile when some say that the Thais respect older people. That is BS, relatives are tolerated, the rest of the older people can go hang.

Sheryl, this OP is just not listening to you, or to anyone else. Your advice is obviously sound and he should act, fast, but he just keeps coming up with excuses for not doing anything. I would not be so cavalier with my own life.

Thank you, I think i understand. Netflix is not offered here. That is strange to me but ok netflix. I wonder why does it matter where you are when you want to watch your internet based movie subscription? I suppose that is just their policy.
I gotta say i watch whatever i damn well please. It is all out there, available. No vpn needed here as no isp are snooping around. I respect what other folks do but just sayin.
you cannot access all Worldwide websites and services from a Thai isp. Netflix is in Thailand, just a slightly different set of movies.

well I can give you two; access to UK website videos, such as Sky sports, and two, access to the full range of Netfix movies that are not available on Thai Netflix. I also log in to the UK government websites using VPN. Oh, and BBC iPLayer podcasts that are not available here.
