  1. Well!

Presumably you're not thinking about a Visitor Visa (i.e. Tourist) as this would not meet your intentions.

She, also, would never be granted one as she has no job, no compelling reason to return to Thailand, and intends to remain in the UK long term.

As you are not married this leaves the following from the UK Government's website:

Apply to join family living permanently in the UK

    Eligibility

To apply for a ‘family of a settled person’ visa, you must be from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.

Your partner or family member must have one of the following:

    • British citizenship
    • settlement in the UK
    • asylum or humanitarian protection in the UK

    You must also prove that:

    • you’re 18 or over, unless you’re applying as a child
    • your relationship to your family member is genuine and recognised in the UK, eg your marriage is legal in your country
    • you intend to continue living with your family member or partner in the UK after you apply (unless you’re a parent with access rights)
    • either you or your family member can support and accommodate you and any dependent children while in the UK, or you meet the financial requirement
    • you and your family will have an adequate place to live in the UK
    • you have a good knowledge of English if you’re 18 or over - unless you’re applying as an adult dependent relative

    Joining your partner

You must prove that you and your partner are 18 or over and in a genuine relationship.

You must be one of the following:

    • married or civil partners
    • living together in a relationship for 2 years
    • engaged to be married or to become civil partners

You must prove that any previous relationships you or your partner had are permanently broken down.

You must also meet the financial requirement of:

    • £18,600 per year if you’re applying only for yourself
    • £22,400 per year for you and one child
    • £2,400 per year for each additional child

    And that's just for starters.

Good Luck, but don't hold your breath!

  2. Try the office store in the Pantip.

    What office store in Panthip?

You mean the one that closed a year ago?

OP - Try a stationery store - such as Office Mate in Central Festival and Baan & Beyond.

    Small size shredders easily available.

  3. Bad news, I'm afraid.

Friend of mine lost his UK licence a few years ago and sent off to the DVLC for a replacement.

Got a letter back that stated, as he was not resident in the UK he was not entitled to a UK licence.

There was even a suggestion that if he was absent from the UK for some time he may have to retake the UK driving test when he returned!

  4. Microsoft discontinued Gadgets last July because of security problems.

There also seem to be a number of users who have been having problems with these 'old' gadgets, recently -

see Microsoft Support "Windows 7 gadgets may not work or be displayed correctly."

    Microsoft now recommends its Apps.

Newer Gadgets are available from other sources/websites.

  5. We had a similar post to this a couple of years ago.

There was a difference in the description of an Easter Egg depending on which side of the 'pond' you came from.

One group called Easter Eggs hard boiled eggs that were painted different colours.

The other group referred to chocolate eggs filled with more chocolates!

If I had been given painted eggs instead of chocolate ones when I was a little lad there would have been tears and tantrums!

Ah! Cadbury's Crème Eggs. I want one now. NOW!

  6. Hundi - used to transfer funds in India before, during and after the British Raj.

Is now considered 'unnecessary' by the banks and governments of the subcontinent and (by some) of dubious legality.

The 'correct' method is that a bank abroad transfers the funds, in its local currency, with the notation on the transfer document that it is for the purchase of a condominium.

The receiving bank changes the money into baht and issues the FET form (which replaced the tor tor 3 some time ago) based on the transfer documents.

Without the FET form the land office will not accept that money was transferred from aboard for the purpose of purchasing a condo, in a legal manner.

  7. I think the charge "Drug Trafficking" is the reason for all of this.

Possession/User of Drugs is a lesser offence and will not raise red flags for the US and other countries.

Why drug trafficking? Was it the quantity of the substance(s) or the fact you were transporting it from one country to another that caused that particular charge to be raised?
