On the App you can manage both accounts, but the joint account can only be managed by one person. I have had the App for years managing this way and never had any problems.

This is how I would expect it to behave, must be some subtle differences in our configurations, when I go to the "add account" it shows only the ATM card of the 1-name account and not the other one so there is nothing to add. As both the local staff ad the central helpdesk were unable to solve it I will in time just cancel the account and think TIT, anyway thanks for your input.

  2. I have two SCB accounts, one  a 2 name account with my Thai partner and one in my name only.

Both can be managed with PC-Chrome and Easy Net access, the one name account I can also manage with the SCB EASY app on my Android phone.

As the Easy Net option will end next month and I did not see how to manage both accounts with the app I went to the local branch and let the staff do it for me. Result was a somewhat lengthy discussion with the local staff and the central SCB helpdesk both in Thai and English, and my Thai is fair, but it ended with we are very sorry Sir but we do not know how to do this but we will get back to you. This was a couple of days ago.

Has anyone been in the same situation and knows the answer?

Tried installing a second version of the App with DualApp but you have to switch off WIFI and they find out and deny registration.

So far I guess we will just have to cancel the 2 name account, no big deal but we have a number of direct debits on that account like Waterworks, PEA etc and you can not simply move them to another account but have to set them up again, unpleasant.

  3. I get my medication for many years already from Peera pharmacy near Thaphae gate, the lady owner is very knowledgeable and decent prices. Also a heart patient and take similar meds, Atorvastatine 40 mg, Atenolol 25 mg and mini asperine 81 mg.

The Atorvastatine is the expensive part, if you take the Sandos brand the cost for a 4 month supply of 120 pills of these meds is 4250 Baht while if you select the locally produced Lipostat it comes down to 2650 Baht, your choice.

  4. A bit confused now, thought that since about 2016 use of RCBO is mandatory for the main switch with the subswitches often be non-RCBO. According to the video this would be problematic.

Was planning to replace the MCB in our house with a RCBO 50A Square D but hesitate now. Our house is not very big and the normal stuff connected, couple of aircons, 2 water heaters, fridge, waterpump etc nothing special.

The same I was thinking to do for the house of the daughter that also lacks a RCBO.

Would like comment from Crossy or one of the other pros if I would improve safety with the swap but get other problems in return, as we have had none in 15 years or that the swap is a good idea.

    Thanks, Joop

I just arrived in Bangkok this morning on a NON-O extension of stay expiring 4th May 2022. This trip is only until 10th December so I only bought insurance until 10th December. I was curious to see what date the permitted stay would be due to the short term insurance. Surprisingly, the immigration officer stamped me up to 4th May 2022.

Was this extension based on retirement? it sometimes seems to make a difference

  6. The list of posting 11 is from the book page 135.

here and in the rest of the chapter it is often repeated always using sin bon for corruption and sin namjai as a gift of good will often in a patron-client type relationship.

  7. Interesting bit about the Buddha images and the Sop-Li bronze foundry. I've never heard of it.

Have any excavations been carried out there?

My main source of information about that is:

Sop-Li: A Fiftheenth Century Bronze Casting Workshop.

By Carol Stratton. Journal of the Siam Society. 2009 Vol. 97. PDF file.

Carol Stratton has been in Thailand since the early 1970s and began her career as a young volunteer guide at the National Museum in Bangkok. Since then she went on to become a distinguished writer and lecturer on Lanna T'ai art. Her best known book, Buddhist Sculpture of Northern Thailand [silkworm Books 2004] is a definitive study.

In a footnote to her JSS article she states: "Efforts to find out if the current inhabitants of Sop-Li village have retained any memory of this famed bronze-casting workshop were abortive. According to Ajarn Vithi Panich of Chiang Mai University, such exemplary craftsmen would have been taken off to Burma during its long occupation of Lanna T'ai, and other people would have been relocated to the area."

That's just conjecture of course; but it seems plausible to me.

I have never heard of any excavations being done at the site.

    Thanks for your interest.

Trying to find the exact location of Sop-Li village has met with no success so far.

I have seven maps that include the area, but none of them show a junction of the Ping and Li Rivers.

The better maps show the Li River [Mae Nahm Li] as splitting up into several branches and petering out not far south of the modern town of Li.

Is the statement that the town and its 15th century foundry was "located on the confluence of the Ping and Li Rivers" misinformation?

Perhaps I misunderstand, but it seems obvious that the confluence of Ping and Li is not far from Chom Thong.

If you start looking for it down south you will find its origins and not the confluence, you are aware of the fact that the flow of the Li river is in Northern direction ?

There is only a single reference and for me unclear if it says made by workers from the sop li village or it might say made by villagers from the sop li area in that case there might never have existed a village by the name Sop Li

Seems unlikely to me that the casting of a big and important image would have been done in the village, usually it was done near the temple where it was to reside.

Like the big one in Wat Chedi Luang that was cast there and on the field next to the temple there were "a thousand furnaces" or Phan Tao where later the temple with the same name was created.

  8. Tywais: I've had two angioplasties with 6 stents done at Bumrungrad at a cost of around $40,000. Is it any cheaper in CM? Of course, I like my cardiologist, Dr. Sukitti, very much. He's very positive and I always feel cheered up after seeing him.

Had the procedure in RAM in 2011 with placement of single Everolimus drug eluting stent from Abott Vascular.

    Total cost 200.000 baht.

    Very positive about dr. Pattarapong

  9. Some comments on the new healthcare insurance in Chiang Mai.

The costs are 2200 Baht plus 600 for the screening, this is what I and others have paid and what is clearly stated in the directive.

It surprises me that you have definitive information that it was not meant for us, but time will tell.

A friend of mine was about a year ago issued a card at a district hospital and got the message a couple of weeks ago that it was impossible to renew because there was a new scheme: the 2200/600 baht one. He was issued a new card. This was in the MaeJo area in Amphur Sansai and by the Sansai district hospital.

For the NakornPing hospital, it will be unlikely to refer to another hospital as this is a provincial large hospital with 800 beds and should have most facilities.

On their website they say private room is possible, cost 1000/1200 baht and with the condition that partner/family/friend must be available for care during the night. If that is not possible the patient will be moved to the normal ward again.

On my first contact I had a copy of the Udon card and the direct comment was, Oh no we do not have the equipment to produce a card like this, you will get a printed one and if you come to the hospital bring your passport with you. Indeed the card I got is from the earlier scheme and clearly says it is for migrant workers.

Will be interesting if many of the people applying need direct long term care the system will be continued and at what price. At the moment I have a good insurance and will certainly not cancel it for another 1 or 2 years.

  10. Has anyone tried these guys: http://ereaderthailand.lnwshop.com/

    or

would it be better to order one fromAmazon, have it sent to someone in the United States, who then sends it to me by USPS

The model I want (paperwhite) is not available for international shipment direct from Amazon.

    Thanks for any advice.

    T

Ordered a Kobo glo yesterday. Delivery time 18 days.

Quick reaction to emails so just hope for the best.

Seems to be someone at CMU.

Reason for not Kindle is the limited support for other formats, I prefer the EPUB format.
