  1. Wow you guys are awesome.  Thanks so much for all the help.

The $15 eBay one is appealing compared to $100 ones.  I'd get it but the delivery time could be over a month.  Yikes.

JamJar you linked one that I liked around 1600 THB but some of the reviews said there was no charger or antenna slot, so I skipped it.

I ended up ordering the NetGear one for 2400.  A bit expensive, but oh well.

Thanks again ya'lls.  Can't wait to escape this crappy apartment wifi!

Very helpful guys.  Okay so I'll buy one from that Lazada link, and make sure the device is 4G.

Some of the listings say "4G LTE".  Is that gonna support regular 4G also?

If the hotspot is unlocked you can use any carrier/sim... but make sure your hotspot is capable of using the frequency that your carrier uses for high speed data...

    I wouldn't buy a 3G hotspot - They are slow

    Frequency meaning this ↓ ?

    4G LTE band 1/3/7/8 (900/ 1800/2100/2600 MHz)

    NETGEAR SIERRA 782S POCKET WIFI

No need for any special package. All packages are open to tethering or MiFi usage.

    This is great news.  Thanks.

I think I'll just order the device online.  Test it with my current sim card.  Then get another sim card for it.

Currently DTAC is better as they will give you 2 Mbps for the price of 1 Mbps, for up to 60 days.

It is 321 baht, not 300 baht.

Yes, I have that package on my mobile right now.  Andwas struggled renewing it because it's 321, just like you said.  I had 300 credit and it won't work.

  4. How does pocket wifi work in Thailand?

Wifi in my room is crap.

I want to use mobile data on my computer.

I don't want to tether or hot-spot with my phone.

I want to use mobile data on a pocket wifi device instead.

Do you have to subscribe to a mobile data package specifically designed for pocket wifi?

Or can you just stick any sim card in there with any data package?

    For example,

Here is a pocket wifi for about 1000 THB

AIS has an unlimited data package at 1 Mbps for 300 baht.  Can I just get something like that, stick the sim in the device and use it?

Yes, I will ask them about it.  But maybe they discourage will it, even if it is possible.  They don't like you using more bandwidth with a computer.

  5. I've read mixed reports on Yangon for a visa run (SETV) and have read the consulate's website

I'm hoping to get some more input and confirmation.

The consulate website says you need:

    1. Two photos
    2. Outbound air ticket or hotel reservation/accommodation reference (for travelling through border)
    3. 40 USD visa fee

Number 2 above is ambiguous.  You need a flight OR a hotel booking?  That's weird.  But only if you are traveling through a border?  How can you leave the country without traveling through a border?  Or maybe they mean by land.  It's not clear if "through border" applies to the flight and the hotel, or just the hotel.

    So here are the questions:

    1) Is processing time really the next day?

    2) Can the outbound flight from Thailand be within 90 days, not 60?

    3) Will they red stamp you for having multiple, recent SETVs in your passport?

    4) Do you need to show a hotel booking in Thailand?

Any other opinions or experiences would be appreciated too.
    BTW I'm Canadian and I'm 38.

    Thanks :)

Usually this comes up faster in these discussions, but there are two services that "rent" air tickets for exactly this purpose, meaning that you will have everything you need (flight number, booking number in your name for the desired date) for 10$. I've never used it, but other TV members reported that it's reliable. I only remember one of them:

    https://flyonward.com/en/

Fly onward is a scam.  I used them before.  But recently trillions of people been saying they get no ticket and no refund.  I checked the website yesterday and got a virus warning.  There is a new alternative, which some suspect is the same dude.

    From the HCMC website

Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months
Visa application form completely filled out
Recent( 4 x 6 cm.) photograph (s) of the applicant
Evidence of travel (air/bus ticket to and from Thailand)

    http://www.thaiembassy.org/hochiminh/en/services/33685-Tourist-Visa.html

Bus ticket out is OK. But it must be a full trip out not to a border town.

    Nice thanks for the link.

Do you happen to remember where you got your $15 bus ticket to Siem Reap ?

  8. Thank you both.  Maybe I'll plan ahead 3 months.  But...

According to HCMC website they accept any ticket out. I found a cheap bus ticket from Bangkok to siem reap Cambodia for about $15 so it's a legit ticket.

Really?  On the Thai Consulate website for HCMC all I can find is "ticket showing a transit in Thailand".  It doesn't specify air or otherwise.  When did you apply in HCMC, and did they ask to see a ticket?

  9. I got a 60 day stamp upon entry at Suvarnabhumi.  I was expecting a visa exempt 30 day stamp.  What's going on here?  And am I gonna get hassled later on?

    • I am Canadian
    • Plan to stay over 3 months, extending and doing a visa run.
    • I flew in WITHOUT a visa from Philippines
    • Expecting visa exempt entry of 30 days for Canadians
    • But they gave me 60 days

    Stamp in passport says:

    - Visa Class TR

    - 2 Jul to 30 Aug

    Did they make a mistake?
If yes, will I have problems when I go in near the end of 60 days to apply for a 30 day extension?

Worried they might see the 60 day stamp without a corresponding visa, tell me I've overstayed (even though it's their mistake), and GTFO.

  10. Does the 6 month clock start ticking the moment you visa is issued, or the moment you enter Thailand?

I want to get METV in my home country (Canada) now, let's say March 1.

Then travel around SE Asia for about 3 months before entering Thailand, let's say June 1.
Would the 6 month period on the METV be half gone by the time I enter Thai?  That would kind of make the visa pointless and better to get SETV.

(Sorry if this has been asked.... can't read 86 pages)

  11. Does this all mean that I cannot do a same day in and out at Poipet for my 2nd entry? (I have a double entry tourist visa).

If not, then how long must I stay in the other country before being allowed to come back in?

I am in a panick here. My stamp says I must leave by Nov 11 and I have to do my 2nd entry by Nov 12. Not sure what I should do here, but I need to figure it out fast.

You will have not problem doing an out/in crossing at Poi Pet now. Everything has been back to normal for some time now.

Nice. Thanks Joe. Sometimes it's hard to find updates burried in the pages or replies and topics.

  12. I want to do the Poipet option. But I just read "as of Sept 18th, Out/In stamps will not be issued at some checkpoints on the Thai-Cambodian border, even if you are in possession of a valid visa."

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/856633-no-more-outin-stamps-on-thai-cambo-border-for-anyone/

Now I'm getting worried. I'm running out of time, and I have to figure out what to do for a visa run.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

    Old news!

The "issues" have now been resolved.

If you have a valid visa no problems should be experienced.

What a relief. I was totally panicking. I haven't been able to find any updates on the out/in situation at all, except above. Any idea where you read the update?
