No more Out/In stamps on Thai-Cambo border - for anyone

BANGKOK-- Thaivisa.com understands that as of Sept 18th, Out/In stamps will not be issued at some checkpoints on the Thai-Cambodian border, even if you are in possession of a valid visa.

Immigration officials at Ban Laem/Daun Lem, Ban Pakard/Phsa Prum and Aranyaprathet/Poipet seem to be taking a similar stance to that of officials at the Phu Nam Ron border in Kanchanaburi, who have not been issuing visa stamps since last weekend.

This latest informaton comes from a representative at Thaivisaservice.com who informed Thaivsia.com of the following:

“It is our understanding that all check points at Thai-Cambodian border will also limit the OUT/IN with valid visa. Until the situation is clear, at least up to 30th September, we will stop our daily service to Cambodia.

For the time being we continue to offer our service to Vientiane/Laos in order for you to obtain Single, Double Tourist Visa or Single Entry Non Immigrant Visa. FYI, The Thai-Consulate in Savannakhet/Laos, is currently over limit due the huge number of Laotian trying to obtain Visa."

If you do need to complete an Out/In it is suggested that you either leave Thailand by air or go to Malaysia or Laos, where Immigration staff seem to be issuing stamps as normal.

A report on Wednesday confirmed that the Thai/Malaysian border is also operating as normal and Thaivisa.com is yet to receive any reports from anyone encountering problems having completed an Out/In by air.

Ranong seems to be issuing stamps as normal and there have been no reports of problems at Surin and Sisaket border checkpoints, despite being on the Thai-Cambodian border.

It appears this ‘crackdown’ or sudden change of policy only affects those border checkpoints in the central region which fall under the jurisdiction of Immigration Division 3. These border checkpoints are also the closest crossings from Bangkok and the Eastern Seaboard - areas where there are large numbers of migrant workers from Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Thaivisa.com understands that from tomorrow (Sept 18) Out/In stamps will not be issued at some checkpoints on the Thai-Cambodian border, even if you are in possession of a valid visa.

You pay for a tourist visa with multiple entries and it will be worthless?
You will get your money back then?

That runs clearly out of hand here.

Q: so is there a minimum amount of time needed e.g. 1 night, 2 nights, etc required to re-enter at the same border?

Out-In needs that clarification. I realize it might not be the same at each border.

Edit: if so, will TV start a new pinned topic on Out-In reports of the neigboring borders?

Is it correct that all this BS inconveniencing hundred or thousands of farang is simply a spite game between government officials because one caused the other to lose face ?.

Because there is no way this could be considered a security measure to stop bombers getting in.

Who would EVER make a firm commitment for investment or business to this country when they change the rules on a personal whim like this ?. Why are individuals allowed to make policy decisions ?.

Prayuth needs to knock some heads together and keep clear of all the sawdust which will come out.

Who are these clowns and how on earth are they allowed to simply do as they please in the face of the immigration laws? I thought this government were supposed to be sticklers for the law yet seem to be impotent in the face of a few rogue checkpoints going it alone. What a bloody mess, and one in the eye for the 'Simply follow the law, get the correct visa and you will be fine' brigade.

Jesus wept!

That must be a solo stunt from one boarder division.

Would be nice to know if issued multi entry visas are still valid.

Thai officials are stupid & corrupt so this is the mess you get when they have no gumption or self control & only worship the $ . I think only way this country likely see required change to government, police, military, immigration, legal services is to first enhance complete collapse & extreme hardship may change attitudes & opinions ...

Of course they are.. you just have to fly out to activate them then. More expensive and more of a hassle.

The hardship is already there for many small business providers in the tourism industry.

In Thai Visa at the moment are indeed offered many shops (bars, hotels, restaurants, other) for sale.

But at other border points does not seem so, that you must book flights now.

The visa policy is only just a little bit chaotic.

Dear Tourist find out before your trip at which boarder points your granted thai visa is valid!

more hardship is required & it needs hit the big money players & hard. most of the major problems have nothing to do with current sector suffering, sad to see but with current poorly educated people & corrupt pigs at the top chances of any change through paper & talk alone is unrealistic.

why are they choosing to make no changes to crossing the borders with Laos and Malaysia ?

because those immigration divisions are not getting blame for the terrorist suspect entries to the country.

This sort of thing happens all the time but on smaller scale, I been through Poipet a few times when they processing vigilantly & if you talk to a decent tout or lissen in to a visa operator you find is down to a clamp down on dodgy services as let something go that was too hot too handle :-)

That is the problem with corruption without intellect .

Also the tourist with multi entry or double tourist visas?

Many do a visit by land trip (car, bus, train, motorbike, walking, bicycle) to neighbouring countries.

Yes chaotic, but hardly something you can't overcome and most people with multiple tourist visa's are not real tourists but living here. Dare to wager that there are more people living here on tourist visa's than genuine tourist (and no I don't condemn people living here on tourist visa's)

Not liking some policies does not make me any less a junta lover. I am quite sure that any Thai government would have over reacted like this. Let us not forget it was under Thaksin that the 90 reporting was revived.

But this is now of course crazy what is happening and your right in criticizing it.

For genuine tourists it can be quite bad especially if they planned on hopping borders but I doubt many do a out in run... most will go into an other country for a while and then out not out / in like what is said here.
