  1. Fate is on your side!

Tell her you're not sure if you're ready to meet her parents.

Then, tell her that you'll leave it up to fate to decide by flipping a coin.

Call it while it's in the air.

Then, whichever way it lands pretend that it's the way that says you shouldn't go.

She will understand, because it's destiny.

Is this a really stupid idea? Sure! But it works with the program.

  2. Look at every major conflict in the world today and you will find its Muslims vs SomeoneElse....Muslims vs Hindus, Muslims vs Christians, Muslims vs Budhists etc etc...only one common factor....

No getting away from it.............................every diliberate act of unspeakable horror is linked to this group.................

It's all very well to say it's only a few radicals but thats all it takes to wipe out major cities and kill a few thousand.

Do you need a history lesson?

"every diliberate act of unspeakable horror is linked to this group" is quite the bold and misconceived statement.

  3. note that the Emirates flight to HK from BKK is coming from Dubai. They don't seem to clean the business class cabin (full of trash each time I flew), so I can only imagine what economy is like.

The trip on the way back is fine.

If only I could take Cathay going there and Emirates coming back.

That is true, but that is why Emirates business class BKK-HK is so cheap, just 2 thousand baht more than economy class, worth it for the extra airmiles, fast check-in, luggage allowance, hand luggage benefits, champagne and toiletries bag and snacks and attentive service, ICE in flight entertainment and ease of travel.

You're right.. it is a pretty good deal, and probably the reason why I've taken it so many times (no stranger to 'saving dosh' on luxury services)

  4. For those of you who employ Thais, why not offer some *incentive* for them to let you know when there's a problem?

Make it a game. Let them compete with one-another on it. Give them some baht.

  5. Yes, well, next time read the forum rules. If you don't like it here there is no need for you to post here or even read the threads here.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out :D

For a "moderator", quite a few of your posts are quite rude (especially when you're stating the obvious, there is no need to say something like "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out ")

Yes, I know it's my opinion. What have you got to say? :o

  6. .... It's amazing how many shady farangs I have seen in 5 years in BKK. I'm talking some really criminal looking folks: tattoos on hands, face, neck and head. It's almost like a cess pool where some of these people migrate to. ....

I'd be much more afraid of someone with your xenophobic, racist, and just plain ignorant attitude (as you've expressed in other forums) than someone with a visible tattoo.

What comes out of your mouth says so much more about you as a person.

  8. There are quite a few, actually, that can open an account for you by mail and phone.

None of which are in Thailand.

Can you point me in the direction of a list of banks that allow you to open an account by mail or online?

Try the offshore operations of Lloyds TSB, Barclay's International Personal Banking, Royal Bank of Scottland. I think also some of Standard Chartered's offshore locations. Some banks in HK will let you do it also, although you'll have to figure this out for yourself :o

  9. I've sold three names I had for over $1,000. 2 or 3 for around $300-500

At any one time, I have about 200 domains in my possession for myself and clients. (I end up using about 60% of them, but the rest I discard.)

Of the domains I do eventually list for sale (all .com's with no numbers or hyphens) I get interest in about 5% of them.

A friend of mine got lucky. He registered a good travel domain on my recommendation but ended up not using the domain for a site. However, about 6 months after he purchased it, a company offered about $1,500 for it. He didn't even list it for sale. Not bad for a $9 investment.

You figure if you register 100 good .com names you spend about $900. If you sell 5% over the course of one year, you could possibly make anywhere between $1,000 and $4-5k. With the other 95 names parked at Sedo, you may receive an extra $1 to $50 or more per name. (Average I would say is about $6/year for an average name, $50 for a good one. So, an extra $570 or so.)

It's all just speculation. Which is why people start with a few names and work their way up to thousands. Some people even do it as their 'job', if they're good enough.

  10. I'll assume you're talking about .co.th domains -- otherwise what's this got to do with Thailand. I believe you've got to have a documented business in order to get one and "the chosen name should be strongly similar to applying entity's full name or abbreviation", see here for more info. There may be ways around it -- there always are. It may be revealing that many Thai companies never seem to bother with .co.th and just register a .com.

That would explain domain names like http://jobglue.com/ - I saw their ad on the BTS this morning

    "Gluing you with leading corporations"

  11. Best and most popular site to auction, in my opinion, is Sedo.

Third place (no second) is Afternic

Most people in the business take a short name (usually a dot-com) and "park it " to get revenue from type-in and/or search traffic. If it makes more than $9/year (which is the price of registration at a place like namecheap) then you're profitable.

Then, just wait for someone to purchase it.

Better way, perhaps, is to take a pre-existing site with a little traffic and build up the traffic over a few months. THen, offer it up for sale. Someone will buy it, hopefully for much more than you paid/invested.

  12. I think it's a huge generalisation that Thai/western couples are always from vastly different socio/economic groups. Most of the men I see around central Sukhumvit with dark skinned Thai women (perceived by Thais to be low class) are rough as they come. Yes, poor in the west doesn't really equate to poor in Thailand, but my perception is a lot of the farangs in Thailand are as uneducated and uncultured as their Thai lady friends. The better looking, better educated farang men tend to be with the better looking, better educated Thai women.

I won't even comment on this BS.

    (oops.. I just did!)

  13. What I really don't like is when you don't get your change back AT ALL.

This has happened a few times to me, and it's quite annoying. Oftentimes, it seems to be deliberate (I'm sometimes watching them, cause I usually have nothing else to do)

Has anyone been to the Blue Elephant near Surasak station? They give you your change back in a little elephant. The notes go into the elephant's mouth, and the coins fall to its belly. In order to get your coins out, you have to pick up the elephant and shake it out. (Of course, the elephant isn't made of clay, so you would end up making a lot of noise with it.)

I refuse to tip above the 10% already applied to bills if the service was below average to non-extant.

The farang who leave (you know who you are) 30-50%+ tips really do ruin it for the rest of us. Any Thai person will tell you that Thais don't consider these big tippers to be "jai dee" but "baa". (Of course, they still take your crazy money) In some places, they will call you "cold heart" in Thai if your tip is not in this crazy range.
