  1. Hi.i sponsored a thai back in 1998 subsequently got married relationship broke down after 5 years, does this affect my chances of an other relationship with a thai.

    Re; migration to OZ.

    Regards NB :o

You are permitted to be granted 2 sponsorships, each sponsorship must be a minimium of 5 years apart, however exceptions apply.

You have had only 1 sponsorship so that 1.20J rule will not apply in your case.

(You will have to be divorced before you can apply for another sponsorship).

    Thanks,

    divorced finalized 2004

  2. As far as I'm aware of you can't do it at the same time.I was in the same situation as you and applied for a 'citizenship by descent' for my son (just take your passport and the baby's birth certificate and supply the name of the doctor). 10 working days later you will receive it and can then apply for a passport which also takes 10 working days.

If you need the passport asap you can apply for a quickie passport but that will cost you a lot more.

  3. It's true and not a myth. Just gone through the hassles with this myself. My wife confirmed this recently at her Ampur - Bangkapi where she has her tabien baan.

If your child born after 1998, he/she must have thai name. You child can have a farang name only if it has a thai meaning, according to 1998 law the official told her this.

They just don't care if your child will use the thai name as a first name or middle name back in your home country,.....but in thailand he/she must have thai name on the thai ID and thai passport.

Incorrect,my daughter was born 2005 has an english first name and my surname

this is on both Thai birth certificate and Tabien baan however thais never use first

name anyway daughter has a Thai nickname.

  4. Yes.

No Thai food for me. Before, when I was a newbie, I did.

My freezer in BKK holds dozens of meat pies. From Big John and his clueless staff.

    And eat-all-u-can from Ekamai KFC.

When I lived in Australia, Asian food was on the plate every day.

Now, living in Japan, Asian food is out.

If you go Thai upcountry, you would see the waste they eat, I could not even watch them pigging on it. Guts, fat, fried fat, deep fried fat, brrrr

Now, there is a toaster in the hometown(170 baht) , I toast my bread and enjoy my vegemite.

In short, I bring my bread and my butter. Love the rice soup but that's not enough.

Here, in Tokyo, 2 times a week I go to a Thai restaurant for lunch. Basil chicken (krapao ghai) excellent quality. No skin, no bones, no shit as in Thai.

  5. Hi there

I've read a few conflicting things about taxes charged on gifts sent to Thailand through the post.

For postal items sent by mail to be exempt from duty, do they have to be valued under 1,000 or 500 Baht?

I was hoping to send some wine (Is the sending of alcohol permitted?) and perfume (Which I was able to obtain under the value of 1,000 baht). But I am worried that Customs officers may inspect the package and assess their value to be a higher amount.

If anyone has any info, could they please clarify this for me?

    Many thanks

    Sandy  :o

Have sent many things via post to Isaan from mobile phone, perfume

toys, documents never been a problem every was received.

    NB :D

I believe the question was about duties. In my experience customs pay little attention to the declared value. They have their own guidelines for assessing duty.

If you send by surface mail, you often escape any duty.

I have never sent alcohol, so can't help there.

As i said sent a mobile phone from OZ worth approx. 8000 baht

received OK no tax no problem.

  7. How much is enough money for Thai girlfriend

living in issan korat every month until i return

    again.

    NB :D

    Humm,

Ok three kids and a wife, 10k each per month to eat well and stay healthy.

It does not make much difference what the cost of living is they are your family.

The rest you should already know if not then you should not be making babies.

Never sell your family short, in the end they will be all you have. :D

Girlfriend will receive 20000 baht per month.

  8. I agree with you 100% Boo, but the guy owes it to himself to find out if it is his child and if she is still supporting the father of her other children.

If it is relevant i've been to Thailand 22 times, dont't need to do

any DNA tests you only have to look at my daughter, and my girlfriend

is a friend of my EX Thai wifes sister in Bangkok.
