  1. Enough for what?

For her to maintain life?  For her to support her family?  Extended family?  For her to live like a princess, buy a new BMW X5 and a 10,000 rai farm?

Define your terms better and you might get some sensible answers.

And, of course, it depends on a lot of variables.  If you met her in Bangkok or Pattaya and you want to send her home to be a good girl and wait for you, I have a better suggestion.  Throw your money down the toilet. At least you'll see where it's going.

If she is genuinely waiting for you, then test her and give her no more than 10,000baht a month . . enough to live well, not enough to take the p**s.

We met 18 months ago have a 4 month old daughter together

girlfriend works from home small mini mart has 2 children

    from a previous marriage.

  2. Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes anyway:

I am married to a Thai and have a four month old son. He has been included on the "tabien bahn" and now has his Thai birth certificate. I have been told be a couple of people that I now have to go to the local amphur office and register myself there as his father or I have no legal rights for my child. Apparently this is true for Thais also and the birth certificate is not a legally binding document.

Is this true, has anyone done this and what documents to I need ???

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should be named on the "tabien bahn" as the father.

  3. $3000 Maternity Payment

A few months ago i was pondering whether to have the baby in Australia or Thailand.

Centerlink Quoted that it did not matter in which country the baby was born just that the hospital concerned fill in some paperwork.

Can't seem to find the papers.  But will go again on monday and get a copy.

The payment is handled by the Department of Families/Family Assistance Office

    Eligibility for Maternity Payment

    Maternity Payment is payable to:

        * A parent of a baby if the parent meets all other eligibility criteria at any time within 13 weeks of the baby's birth; or

        * A parent of a stillborn baby if the parent would have met all the other criteria if the baby had not been stillborn; or

        * A claimant who is entrusted with the care of a newborn baby if the claimant meets all other eligibility criteria within 13 weeks of the baby's birth and if the claimant is likely to continue to have care of the child for no less than 13 weeks; or

        * A claimant who, before a baby is 26 weeks of age, has the baby entrusted to their care because the claimant will be adopting the baby, provided the claimant meets all other eligibility criteria within 13 weeks of the baby coming into the care of the claimant.

The other eligibility criteria for Maternity Payment are generally that:

        * the claimant and the baby must meet Australian residency requirements(1)

        * the claimant must be legally responsible, either alone or with another adult, for the day-to-day care, welfare and development of the baby(2); and

        * the claimant must satisfy tax file number requirements(3); and

        * the claimant must lodge an effective claim within 26 weeks of the baby's birth or, in the case of adopting parents, within 26 weeks of the baby coming into their care.

    Full story here

They have now extended it to adopted children as well.

$3000 sounds to good to be true.

The way i understand it you have to be living in Aust, and on a

    permanent visa,the mother that is.

  5. My wife and I asked about what is needed when she applies for her passport (with my last name) while we were getting my affirmation stamped at the ministry and the answer was 'just you id card, and you marriage certifivate will be needed.  Photos will be taken here and the passport fee is 1000 baht'

Today she phoned me (from the ministry) to tell me that she couldn't get her passport because they are now saying she has to get her id card changed first - which involves going all the way up to her home province of sukothai.

Is there any more convient way around this that anyone knows of?  And if not, others be warned that the id card must be done first (unless maybe you get the first woman we spoke to)

It is regulation in Thailand that any change of name be done so within 6 weeks.

so they are correct you only need a Thai ID card to apply for a passport,

providing you wish the passport to be in her maiden name,so she will have

to travel to home province to change to your surname.

  6. :o going to Koh Samet, arriving at the island and driving to a resort, one is stopped at the entrance of the "national park" (covering almost the whole island including all beaches, resorts etc) :

Thais pay 20bt, Farang 200bt, - the fee is to keep the island clean!

Now that I understand, since every weekend , hundreds of thai clans invade the beaches with all their home cooked meals, living all their trash where they have been sitting, whereas farang normally go to the restaurants to eat ?

Why are we paying everywhere around  5 to 10 times more than thais?

Never had a problem with this providing you have a Thai family

or are with other thai friends. They seem to take care of it.

  7. My wife has a new Thai passport but her full settlement visa is in the old one. Does she need to pay the £250 to get the stamp put on her new passport before she goes to Thailand for a holiday or can she show immegration at Heathrow both passports when she returns to the U.K.

Not sure on UK standards, but in Australia present new passport at local

immigration office in your own country, new visa stamped as you say free

    of charge.
