  1. What I read from other topics Vientiane and probably Savanakhet as well will issue only 1 ED visa a year.
What I can't figure out yet do they mean 1 in 2018 and another one in 2019 or is it an exact date (it has to be a full calendar year before they give you a new one? And is it the day when you applied for it in another country or the day you arrived in Thailand with this ED visa??

Is Penang still under the 'old' rules? Vietnam seems to be a no-go at the moment.
    Anyone tried Yangon in Myanmar??
Though their requirements on their website says you need a Police clearance certificate?
Is that for every foreigner or just for certain foreigners, their website is not clear about that.
    Thanks
I just got one last month (renewed) in Malaysia (KL). They do require a police clearance cert.

  2. Who would prefer having to pay to a Thai Immigration bank account about 200 Baht at the nearest bank or 7/11 every 90 days instead of having to report and fill in the relevant forms?

A confirmation email with the bank deposit details and your current address should be an adequate TM30 replacement.

Having a copy of the email or payment details should be adequate proof if required by any official.

If a top immigration officer proposed this idea we should all congratulate his brilliant thinking 1f642.png&key=eca1ec9654d339e1dcb410e06a22bf572ac50349869e073b18c879ff8b59a030

Your assuming Thai immigration wants to forgo its new revenue stream from farangs and Thai landlords. That goose is only starting to nest...

  3. Anyone here have multiple citizenships therefore multiple passports? Might be a good idea to alternate using each one for a METV. For example:

1st time - Use your home country's passport, go to the Thai embassy in your local city and get the METV visa in that passport. After 9 months go back to your home country.

2nd time - Now you're in your home country you use your 2nd passport from a 2nd citizenship/2nd country but go to the same Thai embassy in your local city and get a METV visa in the 2nd country's passport. Enter Thailand on that passport. After 9 months go back to your home country.

Then do that loop swapping between passports/visas continuously.

I just wonder, would immigration at the airport be able to put together that it's the same person entering on a different country's passport? Surely with the full name being the same in their system and on both passports it's highly likely their system will match it. If not by the name & birth dates then by the photos in their system. Or if their fingerprint scanners get up and running then by the fingerprints. What do you all think?
I thought you can only get the METV from your home country, meaning you have to go to the second country to get an METV in your second passport. Does anyone know?

  4. Surprisingly at DMK, no problems at all this week. Going out I had only one person in front of me. Returning there were bio-metric staff standing beside each immigration desk to assist. I must look old and frail now because the girl took my hand to scan my fingerprints. Malaysia and Singapore only require thumbprints, not sure why Thailand require all fingers as well.

Because more ways to "cock" things up, as Thai Immigration is clearly a world leader in cocking up almost everything they turn there mind too!

  5. The three years is mentioned on the TE application form. I have just submitted my application as a safety net in case I can’t find new employment before my current contract expires. I actually overstayed a couple of times in 2000 and 2001 so it could be that I am running the risk of refusal in case I apply. Does anyone have experience of being granted a TE visa after having overstayed long ago?
I assume you have changed your passport since 2001. You would/should then have a new passport number which isn't attached\tracked to your old passport. So the overstays won't appear on your current passport arrival and departure date list. Maybe they can do a more detailed check but they will not.

  6. Unfortunately, the Thai definition of "speedy" is not quite the same as some other peoples'.
Let's hope it can be a success though.
How true, it took me 8 hours to renew my ED visa last week in Bkk. Such understaffing surely reflects on poor management practices which media relations will never resolve.
