  1. A guy with 1000+ posts here knows what to expect from such a daft post so what's his point, I wonder? I love it, practically Every sentence has a ridiculous statement in it. One by one.....

It was a troll. The point of a troll is to provoke responses. Except for newbies, most can recognize a troll and know not to feed them.

  2. Took it once (Sombat Tour HH to CM leaving HH at 18:30) - never again! Very, very uncomfortable seats, stops many, many times all night long with people getting on and off, freezing cold A/C, thin little polyester blanket that is worthless. Why subject yourself to this? Fly to Don Mueang and take a mini-van from Victory Monument to HH/Cha Am.

I've taken the bus 4 times. Only stop was the half way point for fuel and food. Freezing cold is always a possiblity on a SE Asian bus, weren't you prepared? That so-called 'thin' blanket was enough for me.The seats are no better than OK for the first few hours, bearable for the next few hours, then bad enough for the last few hours that I wonder why I didn't fly. I'm thin by most standards. I expect fatties would hate the seats from the get-go.

My financial situation changed. I now fly plus bus from Bangkok to HH. Takes a little less time but I arrive with an OK mind and body, vs arriving wiped out from the bus.

  3. If a grey market camera is in a manufacturer's sealed box it will contain a warranty card for some country/region other than Thailand. I'm curious which country/regions people have found. Such a warranty could be useful to someone planning on leaving Thailand, but mostly I'm just curious.

  4. Elephants are highly complex, intelligent and magnificent animals. Polo and other 'games' are not something they do naturally. They are forced into confinement, breakdown of their natural social structure and physically coerced into being clowns for this absurd 'entertainment'. Sorry to criticize this great fun...but what we do to them is disgraceful.

According to one historical account, the first elephant polo match in India was not working out as hoped. The elephant's responses to commands were slow, imprecise and awkward. This bothered those who knew what elephants were capable of and led to talk of cutting the day short for the sake of the jumbos. Then, in the middle of a match, it's was like someone threw a switch. The elephants behavior transformed. They followed commands and soon were sometimes moving approprately simultaneously with the command. On the same day, In subsequent matches, elephants that were not on the field during the transformation started their matches transformed. What happened? Best guess was the elephants realized it was a game so they began to play.

  5. New small Big C in HH also, up Pala-U road on the left before elephant village turn. Market Village has a big Tesco Lotus just south of HH downtown.

I've seen big Tesco Lotus stores. The one at Market Village isn't one of them. Three of them would fit inside a big Tesco Lotus.
    Have you, now?

Did you take the measurements? The world awaits the exact dimensions with bated breath.

Is that the best you can troll?

  8. Seems to me the guys in the shops are salesmen, the tailors are in a sweat shop somewhere. Given the, ah, um, reluctance of Thai merchants to ever admit they did a crappy job, what options would one have if the altered suit came back and the pattern didn't match up at the seams and they say that's not their problem?

  9. No, that isn't hilarious. The opinion, that's all people have same body, like you and the same house like you have - that's really hilarious.

What's hilarious the guys who've responded to belittle you don't realize they are the examples of the reason thaivisa has a bottom of the barrel reputation for factual answers on anything but it's namesake. They don't realize every time they up their post count with such crap they're loudly proclaiming 'I don't have a life!'. But the best part is they think they're engaging in witty banter with their thaivisa mates at the expense of the OP while people who do have a life see them as losers engaged in their daily circle jerk.

  10. I am surprised as I thought they were really well made.

But I am not experienced with packs. As I only use smaller ones for motorcyling

I see REI sells them & has some good videos on them too.

Perhaps I was too literal in responding to your phrase 'top quality'. Between many years of rock and mountain climbing I became familiar and purchased packs, tents and clothes made by companies that knew if their products failed in the field it could compromise the user's safety. That's my idea of top quality.

  11. The sports-shop at Central Kad Suan Kaew, perhaps ?

They have a surprisingly good selection of Osprey packs. Genuine Osprey packs. I own 2 purchased in the US so I know the materials and build quality. These are the real deal. The store had a huge selection, but in mid Dec about half the stock disappeared and the space was filled with cheap packs. Was there just before Xmas, they still had a good selection of everything from daypacks to expedition size.

Happened to be at the mall today. Went to the sports shop to see if they still had substantial stock of Osprey packs. They do:

  12. Chiang Mai is the fourth town in Thailand where I've shopped for boxer shorts in the last 3 years. Mostly I've found inexpensive, poorly made poly blend boxers or 500B+ well made and possibly 100% cotton shorts and nothing in between. I know there's a middle ground because I purchased 100% cotton shorts for 250B a year ago in Pattaya. I'm beginning to think that must have been a fluke. Anybody got a source?

  14. Not so helpful :-(

Hugely helpful if you're willing to learn. You don't have a clue about how insurance works.

Obviously he/she doesnt have a clue - HENCE the question! so if you have nothing usefull to add do us a favour...............

Yet another thaivisa senior member with poor reading comprehension . My post was useful because I told the OP that cheechoo spoke truth. What else is there to add?

  15. The traffic problems on Petchkasem road would be solved in seconds if they simply stopped cars/bikes parking on the inside lane, they do this now and again when somebody big is in town and the effect on the traffic is amazing with traffic flowing freely

(You or your culture's use of 'inside lane' differs from my understanding. In the US the inside lane is the one closest to the center of the road. Never seen cars & bikes park there so seems to me the inside lane in your usage is the one farthest from the center. I'm a regular Sherlock Holmes.)

Two problems with that. First is the shopowners along Petchkasem would see their business plummet. Second is traffic expands to fit the available space. I don't know any residents who choose to drive through the center of town on Petch without first considering time of day, day of week and time of year. Add another lane and they'll drive more often, negating the effect of not parking on the inside lane.

  16. What do you think? it is always good for 9:30? Thank you!

Of course not. Did you read response #3? The sun's path across the sky changes with the seasons. If it didn't there would be no reason for celestially aligned structures such as stonehenge, or this view in Manhatten would either happen every day of the year or none of the days:

    stone10_med.jpg

Instead it happens 2 days a year.

Now, to answer you question. Find photos on the net with the light you want and that have intact EXIF data. Read the exposure date and time from the EXIF. What is EXIF and how do you read it? Google is your friend.

First place I'd start the search for EXIF is Google Earth. Can't post a photo without longitude and latitude. Seems to me if the upload process didn't strip that out of the EXIF the rest of the exposure data might also be there.

  17. The first set of mountains to the east will be Doi Saket; it is a bit too far to get a good clear view of Chiang Mai especially with the smog at this time of year. However, it is you best choice. I suggest going out the 118 highway to the village of Doi Saket where you will find the Wat Doi Saket on top of the mountain. You should be able to get your best view from the temple or if you go from the wat up the road going south (on top of the mountain) about another two to three meters you will find a smaller animist temple that also has a good view.

    Thanks.
