  1. i don't for one second buy into the argument that allowing foriegn investment in thailand without 100 burning hoops to jump through is somehow protecting the thai people. if you look at the worlds wealthiest nations, they have something in common which is open free market capitalism. The Thai people do not benefit from these isolationist policies.

  2. Notleaving anything for the kids, eh?

Yes, I for one, am very jealous of this fact. I would love to own my little piece of this planet here in LOS. But do we really own anything? Aren't we really just paying rent on the land for the brief period we exist in this life?

Yes, very wise to adopt a protectionist way of doing business. America should do the same thing. In the beginning it was free and open to anyone that could sail or swim there and claim the land for themselves. Now we welcome anyone with deep pockets willing to pay.

Thailand could still protect the land and figure a way to allow foreigners to "own" a piece of it and make money in the process if the big power people really wanted to.

  3. This is silly. Free markets create wealth. If the other countries are stupid enough to make it hard for foriegners to invest there, they will slow their own economic progress.

If I were the King of America I would not allow citizens of a nation that doesn't allow Americans to own land, etc., to own any in America...bet things would change here.
  4. My wife has a 10 year multiple entry 6 month at a time visa to the USA and she just bought a home there.

In order to purchase a house what she needed besides the funds was:

    Her passport

    A pen for her signature

Makes it clear why Thailand is so behind the world and makes me appreciate American free business and capitalism.

  5. anyone familiar with the FIRPTA forms?

foreign investment in real property tax act?

if one person in the marriage is an American citizen should they both still sign the form or is only the non America supposed to sign the form or does the form not need to be signed if one of the person's is an American citizen?

Thanks... my RE agent is not too experienced in foreign partners.

  6. i am sure u will make money as an investment property but i personally consider both of these places to be very subpar. they are built with the absolute cheapest materials and finish possible. you could rip a hole through the walls with a pencil. pretty much every condominium in bangkok follows this line of absolute cheapest materials and finish and then usually terrible up keep and service after wards. the builders are surely making a mint.

  7. home was sold in 06 for 250k new. now they are bank owned and almost half the price. florida is not san fran for all purposes. i guess its not brand new, its been lived in a year or so by somebody. thanks for all the information.

  8. ok but does she need a specific visa or any specific documentation?

A non-US citizen can buy a house on his or her own. There are no restrictions--in fact, there are federal laws in place which make it illegal to discriminate in selling a house to anyone based on race, religion, or nationality.

You will have no problem getting her on the title.

  9. Long Story Short.

Buying a House in the USA.

    Wife is Thai, myself American.

We want to put it in both of our names. What needs to be done so that this can happen? Can my wife simply sign the contract?

Our marriage was registered at the American embassy in Bangkok and her name is on my tax returns that i file in the usa.

My wife has a tourist visa only. we do not live in the usa. this will be a second home.

  11. i have been trying to get term life insurance and telling them that i live in thailand, the few companies who have been willing to insure me would not do term insurance, only universal life insurance which is not the policy you want to have as just a scam. this makes me think that many of you are paying for policies your loved ones will never be able to collect on when its discovered you live here full time.

  12. It seems as though there are always more and more farang coming to Thailand despite all the claims on this forum that farang are fed up with Thailand and leaving any day. It also seems like the farang coming to Thailand are coming with less money than previously and with the intention of working low paying jobs or doing whatever they can to survive. You see more bus riding these days and the roads are filled with farang motorcyclists.

What do we assert this rise in tourism numbers to? Bad western economies? Has the word spread about Thailand's prestige that has attracted more and more farang to Thailand? What effect will this have on the farang already living here? Will it hurt our very good reputation with the Thai people?

  13. wow, that sounds like the type of place that has western style coffee shops and maybe even a western brand coffee shop in the lobby. that is insanely impressive. i have heard of farang working in grade b and grade c office buildings but grade a! totally amazing! well done!

My wife worked in the same grade A office building as me, for a very large and well known Japanese trading firm.
  14. it makes perfect sense considering what most of the conversations sound like:

    "u want spicy??"

    "u want 2?"

    "u sleep?"

    "u can pay?"

    etc etc etc

language not required for romance in thailand.

    Forget the hairdresser excuse:

"I met my girl when she was cashier"

"I met my girl when she worked at Lotus"

"I met my girl on the bus"

"I met my girl selling jeans at a Bangkok market"

Forgive me if i am wrong, but anytime i been around Bangkok in my past 2 years in Bkk 99.9% in such jobs can't speak English to save their lives. Find me a Lotus girl, cashier, bus conducteress together who can all speak English enough to have a foreign boyfriend and i'll buy you a beer. Unless the majority of thaivisa members are fluent in Thai. Or the ex-Thai-girlfriend got a doctorate in medicine with a degree from Harvard!!

So much drivvle is being told in here makes me wanna laugh or puke, or both!

  15. why r u paying some girl with 2 kids whom no thai man would touch with a ten foot pole 20k baht a month? she is not a good girl there is no expectation of sin sod at all in her future. sounds like this girl and her mom think u r just another idiot.
