  1. You need to understand that the only way for the store to see that a pack of water has disappeared is doing a full inventory, in which case a small thing like this would be nothing out of the ordinary, completly natural, a cost of doing business with hundreds of thousands of transactions.

I think you would be surprised.

Many years a go someone I know bought a microwave, some other stuff, and a case of beer at Tesco.

The microwave and the groceries were in the trolley and the case of beer was on the lower level of the trolley.

The cashier didn't notice the case of beer, and the customer also only noticed that it wasn't on the bill when he arrived at home.

A few weeks later he received a phone call from Tesco to ask if he maybe forgot to pay for a box of beer on that day.

They had noticed from the camera above each check out counter who had failed to pay for a case of beer, and of course they had his details because he had filled in the microwave warranty.

They have my credit card number from the transaction and also my phone number from the points card that was used.

  2. There's no way to link this tiny indescrepancy to a single cashier. It's simply not possible in a large store with many cashiers.

Do yourself a favour and forget about it.

If you walk in there with your receipt and tell them she <deleted> up her job they will probably just fire her. How will you feel then ?

They won't tell you they're going to do this but for the purpose of arguments sake you should assume that they will absolutely 100% fire her if you do this.

Surely the receipt has a link to the cashier.

  3. I was at a major supermarket yesterday. The basket was full of several large items such as cases of beer and water. I held up one of each item for the cashier to scan and she asked how many of each before each scan. On some packs of water I told her two as this was what I thought we had however i later realized it was three after reaching home

My initial reaction was to go back to the store and pay the 49 baht to the customer service counter today. Will this get the cashier in trouble? My friend said I should just forget about it going back to pay will just cause confusion.

    What do you think?

  4. It will be strange for some Thai people but a lot of things we do are strange.

You can order a 'lat khao' which is a dish over rice on one plate and it will be less weird in their eyes.

Should have said comments were made by expats.

I dont usually eat Thai food with expats we eat farang food. Take a burger with you next time

  5. It's not "cheating" by any means.

The fact is, packages delivered by Thai Post locally, especially the under $50 value ones, don't get the same Thai customs attention that FedEx and DHL handled packages do. That's a solely Thai government decision/implementation -- nothing to do with the recipient "cheating."

The better and proper question would be: why would anyone needlessly want to pay extra money for customs and tax on packages when they don't need to simply by choosing a different delivery method, and in fact, delivery by a Thai government agency instead of a private courier?

Sorry but you are stealing from the Thai government and its people.

There are clear customs rates and duties per commodity code. They should be paid else you are breaking the law and smuggling products.

The King power shop is also stealing from the thai government and thai people. They sell taxfree to arriving passengers in BKK, i have not seen that anywhere else on the world.

You must not travel much.. duty free on arrival is also available in Taiwan, hong kong, the Philippines and Singapore to mention a few

  7. I am in a strange position and nobody in Thailand has been able to give me (or my employer who is a good friend) a definitive answer.

I am not working in China per se, I am acting as a consultant.

Where we have become lost is the Thai revenue laws state a non - resident must pay tax on income from sources in Thailand.

I reside in Thailand but as per the 180 days I am classed as a non-resident.

My employer is Bangkok based so I presume that "income from sources in Thailand" is applicable to me.

If I have to pay tax I need a WP.

If I was paid to an offshore account there would be no problem but my boss has only just started his company and he is concerned with any irregularities that may attract the attention of the Thai authorities.

    Any advice greatly appreciated,

    Cheers,

    BB

Dont be an employee. Just ask them to give you a purchase order and work as a contractor.

its not as simple as that, unless one has a legal entity and invoices as a company, even with a PO he would still be paying income tax as an individual, this only works it one is invoicing company to company

Paying income tax where? There is not any work performed in Thailand. China is a different issue his concern is about Thailand.

  9. The unfortunate thing about Amazon's international shipping is, in most instances, Amazon itself as a seller tends to use DHL or FedEx as their international shippers -- which pretty much guarantees almost anything you order is going to be charged Thai customs duty and tax.

There are international reshippers people can use with Amazon in the U.S. that eliminates all that. Buy online from Amazon, get free shipping to your reshipper address in the U.S. if you're an Amazon prime customer, and then pay a much smaller shipping price to Thailand and typically no Thai customs or duty on the Thai end -- assuming the value is under $50 or so.

It takes some effort and expense to arrange for international reshipping in terms of the first-time setup. But if you're a regular shopper/shipper, it's going to be worthwhile in the long run. It's not worthwhile for a one-time only purchase.

So do you think it's OK to cheat on taxes and/or import duties?

    • A single entry tourist visa is valid for 3 months meaning you have 3 months from the date it's issued to make the one entry.
    • On entry you ae granted a 60 day stay, that can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office.
    • If your wife entered on April 5th she will have permission to stay until June 3rd.
    • She can apply for the extension of stay any day from Monday May 30th to Friday June 3rd.
    • Day 1 of the 30 day extension should be June 4th regardless of when she applies.

What is your source of information of when she can apply for an extension of stay? 2 weeks before the expiry of the stamp would surely be accepted.

  10. It may be just a mistake.. or maybe they are overcharging everyone! Don't jump to the conclusion its personal because you are a farang.

Next time just tell you think he made a mistake.

I am often undercharged in my local shops and bars.. I always am honeyst and tell them!

I don't have a Thai partner.. and I have not felt the need to get one to protect me from con tricks or overcharging.

I know what there things should cost.. so if services are too expensive I just decline them and find someone cheaper.

I can speak Thai quite well.. and I have seen many times when the Thai wife or GF actually tell the farang a higher price.... it had nothing to do with the person selling stuff... it was so the Thai wife could get a cut of the money. When the farang find out they got overcharged she will blame the person selling the product or service. Not saying this happens all the time... but I have seen it twice with my friends.

Wow. Pick better friends this is really sad and it sounds like you might be in on the scams if you don't say anything

  11. Hi, do you know if a Chinese person can also stay 1 month in Thailand with a visa exempt entry ? And 1 month extension is possible for each entry ?

In your opinion, after how many times coming to Thailand this person will be questioned by immigration ? And if this person is able to show a lot of money in Chinese banks, would it help ?

Then the best option will be an education visa or Elite visa ? I wonder if somebody refused at airport could wait until the Elite staff comes to airport to bring her visa ? (if called day 1, will Elite staff bring the visa day 2 ?)

The target is to pay the Elite visa only if really needed and if this person is refused entry to Thailand.

Thank you for all your replies

There is no written limit for visa exempt entries. Immigration get an alert when you reach 6 of them. Some of the border crossing to Cambodia are limiting our/in visa exempt entries to 90 days in a calendar year.

Since the multiple entry tourist visa became available in November of last year only it and single entry tourist visas are issued.

You can get a single entry tourist visa at nearby embassies and consulates.

Vientiane or Savannakhet in Laos and Penang Malaysia are good locations to get one.

Chinese Nationals are not entitled to visa exempt entries. They can apply for a visa on arrival which costs 1000 Bht and allows a 15 day (non extendable) stay

If a Chinese person wishes to stay longer they must apply for a Thai visa in China.

Questions about the Elite visa are best addressed to Thai Elite http://www.thailandelite.com/glimpse.php

Chinese can also get visas outside China if they have residence in another country. You have made the incorrect statement that Chinese must get their visas in China more than once.

  12. and the tm30 your 'landlord' did.

    and photocopies of:

    photo page of passport

    entry stamp page of passport

and having a thai g/f to do your talking helps mak mak. but she will have to have her id with her, too.

i thought i might need some photocopies. TM 30 from landlord? Is that required? Havent heard of that before.

Only if in Pattaya you need proof of address. Other places just show up with the money and you can make the copies etc at the immigration office.

Most(All?) Immigration offices will require evidence of an applicant having a local address.

Where except Pattaya/Chonburi for a TR extension?
