  1. also does anyone know if they can get subway to deliver outside the toursit area for an extra fee to the moto driver for doing so. as they refuse to deliver to nonthaburi

There is a subway in Nonthaburi but probably not your end. It's just outside Nichada thani in Pakkret area

  2. In KSR area BKK

    wait staff should make

    5000B per month

    8.5 hr shift

    6 days a week

overtime at 1.5 x the hourly rate

Tips devided between all staff including cooks over multiple shifts at month end

Reality: about 4500B + 3000 deposited by staff member to get the job, returned after 3 months of service

    cooks should make

    6000 to 7000B per month

  3. Got a Z4 from the shop in HK that Ben suggested. 74,000B. The Z3 is still being sold here from sanyo direct for 110,000B Couldn't find the Z4 here.

There is a relatively new? hi-fi shopping centre behind big-C near world trade centre called Hi-fi centre that has a score of shops, some sell projectors, most sell high quality amps and speakers.

  4. An update on what I bought

First thanks to the posters for their input

Bought a projector from hong kong Hivizone

    Sanyo PVL-Z4 1000 lumens, 7000-1 contrast ratio

    73,000 baht there abouts

Quick response time with emails and delivery

They didn't accept payment by credit card only wire transfers or cash. Luckily had a friend in HK that payed COD and the projector was delivered the day after confirmation by email and picked it up over the weekend.

The projector itself is awsome. Mates had a large LCD (the size of a door turned on its side maybe a plasma?) and blew their load when we hooked up the ps2 to the projector (about 15 ft on the diagonal as the wall in their HK apartment wasn't any larger). They'll be getting one for christmas.

Bought yamaha package for sound. RX-V357 (lowest model amp) with 2F, C and 2S. No subwoofer for about 24,000B from homepro. Does the job well but I'll probably get a SW later to see what improvement is made.

Using an older panasonic DVD player on an s-video cable for the moment.

  5. JJ ZoneC Soi5 shop 18 (made to order, takes a week, they install)

Order in quantity and you should get them for 600 to 650 per square meter (colour stain) Plain should be cheaper. They have style samples. Only open on the weekend.

I used them. They were well made, on time and well installed.

If you are good at haggling you'll get up to 25% discount on above price

  6. A word on aftermarket service between Honda and Toyota (Civic vs Altis, know it's different from the OP city vs vios but talking about brand)

Have a civic now. 2 years old with just over 100K. Surprised that the door locks craped out after 40K and the rear shocks after 50K. Serviced by Honda every 10K, tried 2 different places but they really have been useless. I honestly recon that they don't even change the oil when you take it in.

Had an altis previous. Absolutely no problems over 5 years with regular service.

I prefer driving the Honda though

  7. Probably lads from morobe. Chimbus would of at least made it to the nieghbours before they gave up.

I remember when I was a kid in Wewak (sepik province) just after independence when law and order began to be an issue. Some hard working sepiks pushed the car out the drive and down a 4x4 track (our street in those days) before they hotwired it. Unfortunately being a pile of crap fiat it had a dead engine. In actual fact the engine was still hanging from a block and tackle in the cars usual spot in the carport. The only explanation for the amount of work done was that the car must of been so light and easy to push.

  8. PNG isn't actually that poorly equiped with reguards to infrastructure.

There are numerous international hotels in the main cities and PM is actually quite developed. They certainly have better internet than thailand. Transportation between cities by way of road is still a major problem but there is really only one major road network (morobe/highlands highway) that links 2 or more major cities. Flying is the best alternative if you're worried about the frequent hold-ups and car jackings. It is unsafe in my opinion if you were to visit as an independent traveller without local friends.

Crime is definately worse than 10 yrs ago but is seasonal. My parents were broken into 3 times last year. The rascals are quite daring nowadays and more agressive. All 3 times somebody was at home. They've got 8 ft high fences, razorwire, dogs, security bars and monitored alarms. Last christmas they were bold enough to knocked a hole in the brick wall during a thunderstorm (it was the only section of the wall that wasn't covered with a security grill). Made off with the tv in the rain, left it outside the fence when it got a bit heavy.

  9. For bkk it is measured to the office of the mayor. Very close to democracy monument around KSR.

Directly opposite the most famous bread and milk place in thailand where the guy turning bread is basically a machine. He does the same task of buttering bread for hours on end. Pritty impressive.

  10. Irian Jaya or Papua New Guinea? Two seperate countries.

Indonesia and PNG (Australian emabassy usually will be able to help for PNG visa advice)

For PNG direct flights from singapore. Not cheap. Most expensive air route per mile traveled in the world.

  11. I would suspect that most of the contamination comes after farming. I would think that modern pesticides would be removed by rinsing your veges however it would be best to rinse under running water rather than soaked in a bowl. That said it wouldn't surprise me if DDT was still being used and DDT has a long residual breakdown in soil. New Zealand milk is only at safe drinkable levels to this day because they mix contaminated south Is milk with lower contaminated North Is milk to meet the standards.

If you eat street noodles a lot then check out if the boiler in the cart is a one piece pressed sheet or the usual lead solded seems. It is common for fresh seafood to be preserved with some chemical in thailand. Don't know what is used but how does seafood remain fresh in 30 to 40 degree heat sitting on ice for a few days? and being transported on ice in a pickup until there sold to a vendor.

  12. There is concrete type fibreboard around (4mm) can be nailed to the top of the cabinet then tiled over.

If the cabinet is made of particle board then you could seal the ends closest to the top with a stain or polyeurathane to help keep the moisture out.

  13. I'm quite sure it's the same fortune teller that predicted hugh earthquakes in Chang Mai and Bangkok for earlier this year on some specific dates. Nothin happened. October is in the tellers tea leaves as very disasterous.

I read a report from somewhere before the fortune teller predictions started that it takes about 14 days for the rain water that falls at the head of the chao phaya river basin to reach Bangkok. The 16th is predicted to be bad flooding in BKK as the run off reaches bkk and clashes with the larger than normal high tide. To add to that the council has to discharge water from the canal areas that are reaching their peaks now. (They manage a lot of the canals with sluse gates and pumps. They have been unable to cope with the current volumes of rain when it comes to discharging into the CP so the canals are peaking as rain continues). Supposedly there will be definate flooding on the 16th regardless if it rains.

Maybe the fortune teller is an avid reader that has thrown in a tsunami as a wild card

  14. Georgia at adhere has a fantastic voice and the spontaneity of the music and the endless stream of guess players creates a great atmosphere.

Samsen rd by the way is close to ksr in Banglampoo
