  1. I think you went overboard on blocking the subject of the Phayao accident. I just read the news for Saturday, Monday posted here on this site. we have not been watching Thai tv nor bought any newspapers. 1st I heard about this from Taco just now and told the family. Since we live very close to Phayao, and NOT in the Monday news here posted so far, NOT watching TV or buying newspapers, I think you were out of line terminating the thread. Suppose the folks who died, who were hurt were someone here that knew and wanted to acknowledge that? You terminate/stop that thread, I think You were too hasty. You have the power, I guess to terminate this thread I started or whatever. In my mind, Taco did nothing wrong to enlighten those whe did not know, yet. SHOW me a link on today's news here where I get all my news, about that accident?

  2. We bought a plot of land here, owned by my wife's brother before, for about $5000 10 years ago. Rice patty and spent about $2000 to bring in dirt to make the land more high than the main road next to it and planned to make our house there. Instead, we made the new home where all her family was born, live now, street. About 5 minute walk from that land, Thai government bought maybe 3 times as large land, same street and putting up goverment buildings now. They paid 30,000,000 baht for that land. Let's say-pot luck, location, and being in a growing area helps the prices of land here. Have not asked the value of that land, but was offered $30,000 for it 5 years ago. Wife wants to keep it in the family for now. My opinion, as the dollar slides down, baht goes up, rich Thai's are going to get richer and land will be more expensive to buy.

  3. What a bummer. The sim card lasted only about 10 hours and had to get some one from the computer shop to come here and call the sim card company to "pay" for more service. Mam, 500 baht only brings 30 slow loading hours. Any video is useless in watching including emal attachments. I checked in Phayao and like I figured, to get any wi fi high speed, takes a year contract. Got 2 neighbors with high speed and speeds are ok here and I am sure they are not paying for the highest speeds available. My friend in Pattaya was very fast and his Skype was perfect. Oh well, something to look forward to, I guess when I move here, fast internet which I MUST have. This dongle/sim stuff is for the birds and a waste of time and money.

Gino, here's a plan. check with a neighbour wether they have a wireless router connected to the landline.

most people do these days. allows them to use a laptop more conveniently. if they do, ask them if they will give you the passcode for the router temporarily, whilst your here. then slip them 1000 baht , and perhaps a bottle of decent (by thai standards) whiskey) which will cover there monthly bill nicely.

Its A Win, Win situation. you'll have mega speed. be able to watch all the thunderbirds series, front to back ;-)

Took your advice and spent 450 baht for a card with a small antenna. Live about 50 feet from his house and getting 48 mbps. Works great and thanks again!

  4. I used to get a Thai massage from any shop I passed whenever I felt the urge to relieve joint pain.

Now however I dont get Thai massages anywhere, purely as I am not so sure having my bones twisted all over the place does them any good and I know my knees cant take it .

Someone once told me that normally there is only one qualified person per shop who then passes on his/her skills to others who go to work there and to be honest I believe that .I am sure there must be people who have come out of these places worse off then when they went in.

I only have the oil massage now which is so relaxing an therapeutic and well worth having if your as I am in the AGED bracket. :D

Ditto-age 63. I took the medium massage and had to say stop once when doing the left hamstring. The gal was worried for all her treatment I might hurt. 2 years ago took the hard one and never said I quit on anyone of the twists, etc-more of a macho thing, I guess. Honestly, maybe more than want people wanted to know, been in Thailand about 2 weeks and only had 1 bowel movement and after the massage-twice in 1 day. Wife explained the problem to the girl. Sure worked what she did. The folks at the Phayao hospital are licenced and no hanky panky. Very professional and very good at what they do. After the workout yesterday, felt like <deleted>? Felt to worn out. Today, lots of energy-must have been those 2 bowel movements?

    Life is good again, bro.

You really ought to take much much better care of yourself.... at 63

    two weeks without.... what? ;)

2 weeks of not eating Hotpockets.

  6. Question. I have a problem with eating meat that is not lean, I eat a lot of pork, beef (hamburger), chicken which I buy in the US which is the leanest possibe. No fat, no nerves, etc, the best cuts. Do you serve or can order stuff like 92% pure hamberger? Sausage I can understand-high fat content in stores. I have a great sausage maker, just need the lean meat and whatever casings.

  7. Alway to manage to get at least 1 Thai massage when I visit here. The Phayao hospital has about 4 people who will come to the house and do it. This year I told the wife, get me a woman, the same who done her's last week. I had a dyke and a guy before and kinda wanted someone more my style. Well, the lady came yesterday and beat me up pretty good for 2 hours (200 baht). Best Thai massage yet although the ones I had in Japan, Phillipines, Taiwan, and Korea (steam and cream), were much more "relaxing". Also being single then and not having the wife watching you get the massage makes the biggest difference. Miss those old days.

  8. As I've said before some of the Dongle's are capable of higher speeds. mine says 3.5 meg with 3g.

only really possible in a city where its cost effective for them to provide the signal or if your close to a transmitter with 3g signal which is highly unlikely. outback your just getting Edge. I only just get a signal with edge.

    Try a local internet Cafe

If I may ask-what dongle and sim card you running?

Its a Huawei from AIS with AIS Sim. it doesnt really matter though. Its the signal thats the problem. My speeds are in single figures kbps.

Did you ask the neighbour ? You'd just need a wireless dongle then, couple of hundred baht. 400 tops.

He has not been home for 3 days. He is the guy who is a chef and makes those great Swedish meatballs, etc. This dongle I got is USB wireless but no clue if it will work with his setup. Wife's cousin owns a computer store and should be able to hook us up with a price.

  11. went to that store 2 days ago and saw 2 guys that might have lived in Phayao. One was eating in the Kentucky Fried Chicken and another near the entrance door which looked like with his family. I wanted to 1st say are you from Phayao but felt out of place to ask. Kinda weird and was hoping the 2 guys would talk 1st.

Just wondering if anyone here was there at the Lotus store 2 days ago and wish that I initatiated a converstion 1st.

Hmmmmm, my wife's cousin next door has that set up and let me borrow his laptop to use in my house 2 years ago. I will ask him if he will do that. Thanks for the idea. I just hate going to his home or asking to use his internet all the time and both he and his daughter/son use theirs a lot.

Just did a speed test-200 kbps upload and just 59 dowload-ugh!

  15. That is what I got, Edge dongle with some kind of sim card inside. Watching any kind of video is useless. Wife's granddaughter has put a bunch of her videos on Youtube to show her baby off. Impossible to watch. I also want to get TOT as next door gets 11 meg but I assume you got installation fees and long term contract and i leave in 3 weeks and not feasable at this time. I was hoping if someone knew if there were faster speeds with a different dongle and or different sim card inside.

  16. Got this desktop computer and guy came today and istalled a USB thingy modem with a sim card for "high speed" internet. Well, for me, super slow and just getting 460 kps. Never had to use something like this and wondering if there are different sim cards with different speeds?

  17. Mainland is a brand name, comes from New Zealand. The Vintage is the best if you like sharp flavoured cheese.

You have to slice it yourself, tough ask I know but you've shown yourself to be a competent man. B)

Can you select your seats online with Thai?

I never bother for a one hour flight which is all I've used them for for years now.

Yes, can select seats online and I went further. Called Thai 4 different times in the last month to verify the seating. 4 different times different and all of them wife and I seperated. 1 day before I left, called and had window with wife next to me. Got my ticket in LA and had us seperated, complained, gave us new seats together and did not know back of the bus until we were led to them. Got over 40000 miles as a frequent flyer with them and total bullshit. They winged it on the fly at the airport after 4 earlier confirmations and the 2 people who had those rear seats were very happy to move, I am sure.

I always buy the sharpest cheese for with crackers but never ate it in a ham/cheese sandwich.

(Be sure you are right and then go ahead-competent).

  18. Kraft singles is not a good choice dude, the Mainland cheddar is better.

About all I use the singles for is grilling. The mrs seems to like them though and the dog has never refused one.

Get well soon, the air's a bit smokey, may be a reaction to that.

Kinda went with what I know American-Kraft and what a mistake. Still got 22 slices left and will use your suggestion next time tomorrow when I go to Phayao. Mainland-is that a brandname and can be used for ham and cheese sandwitches? Caught this crap in Bangkok where we stayed for 4 days and sitting on the last 2 seats of Thai Airlines (ordered my tickets 5 months ago) and got the worst seats. Also the guy sitting in front of me had a real bad "death" cough which I soon acquired. Later I will complain to Thai Airlines for the crappy seat locations (sat right next to to the crappers also-smelled just freaking great). 60% of the trip was in very bumpy weather and sitting in the very back makes it feel a lot worst. Went through 4 rolls of toilet paper the 2nd day in BK for runny nose. Would rather had the runs than that sinus pain. Buy tickets 5 months early and get the last 2 seats. BS.

Wife going to get mad but having my 1st beer. Can't feel any worst.

  19. If you got the lot size a single story is great, especially for older folks who have problems with their bones (RA). We had 2 lots and decided to build on the smaller one with the main bedroom downstairs for my wife and I as it is on the same street as her family and also the same spot where she and other siblings were born. Due to her RA, those stairs are not safe for her to use now. However, the downstairs and upstairs do not get hot with the pastal paint, special curtains, and most important, a lot of the house has concrete with brick next to it to absorb the heat. Constuction this way keeps the heat factor inside down

  20. Have not been here in 2 years and the 1st thing I have noticed were the women, the young ones whose legs have a lot more meat, definition to them. Before, kinds thin, now, more developed legs, and very nice. Happened in Japan also as the fast food joints arrived and they were eating better beef. :jap:

  21. I never eat at the fast food places in the states but a for sure feeling that whenever I am in Chiangrai, I will stop there. As mentioned before love the big breakfast and used to get one every Friday and take it to work to eat. Been more than 3 years since i retired and non since. Someone is going to be very rich with that one and only franchise there. Need a Wendy's now for some competition along with a Pizza Hut. :D:D:D

  22. Waited all this time to come visit everyone at the social gathering today and have been sick with something (deep cough, runny nose, sneezing) since last week. Today is the 1st time I have used the internet since I arrived and even that was a goat rope. 2 computers here at home and neither one would work with the 2 cards I bought for the old style modems. Come to find out, the family upgraded the compuers internally with also a sim card based usb modem-faster but more expensive. Still slow for me (460 kps). My usb ports are I guess 1.0 which would slow things up. Took forever to go through about 500 emails I had waiting for me. Video sucks.

Anyway, got a fridge full of cold Heinieken (sp) and afraid to drink any with this deep cough and the Robitussin ain't helping much. I hate hospitals and looks like I will go to the Phayao one tomorrow to make sure I do not have pneumonia or something bad.

I wish to apologize to everyone for not showing up as this was one event on this trip I did not want to miss and read today it was happening as I type. When I landed in Chiangrai 2 days ago, looked for that Tops store to get some food as my friend from Pattaya we visited 1st said lots of great food there. Was I ever disappointed at the one on Chiangrai had nothing. 7-11 had better stuff. Ended up at Big C and either my taste buds are screwed up or the Kraft cheese singles that I THOUGHT would taste like the US brand, NOT! UGH! At least the kapow here tastes the way I like it.

Well, got the computer up and running and looking forward of any pics from the picnic. Time to read this posts I have not seen yet.

    Peace
