  1. Guests or foreign visitors, neither should leave their politeness and common sense at the doorstep. Many a tourist or longterm resident seem to believe it is alright to behave here in ways which wouldn't be acceptable in their homecountry, ranging from the antics in the beerbars to the disregard of religious images. Everybody here has enough observations to write a book about it.

And with the Thai mentality being tolerant and non-confrontative, these folks, (backpackers and lagerlouts and so on, to use some stereotypes), might well believe it is fine what they are doing.

But I assure you it is not, when I hear my Thai friends talking, or discuss with other expats who are trying to fit in.

    Btw,

Many monks who live on the temple grounds, especially the senior ones, apart from lazing about all day, ripping tourists off and looking after their fat bank accounts, also have unpaid social duties in the community, to be understood in the Buddhist concept of compassion. They fulfill functions which in farang country would be termed councelling, caring, helping people in need.

When I got involved in my partner's village, I was amazed just how much the head-monks daily routines were those of a social worker, rather than leisurely meditating on temple grounds. No wonder people like to give something back and donate when they can...

  2. Well put, Dude, I agree.

And Dutch, people get paid for the work they do, not for what they think they need. I also think many farangs are overpaid, and the new work permit rules don't help the issue.

As for the prostitution issue: the same argument again and again, farangs have not invented it, core(?!) value of Thai society blah, blah...

You are talking the same way as the grungy backpackers you so much despise, 'we haven't invented ganja, and heroin is produced in Thailand'.

    2 wrongs don't make a right.

  3. Just tired of wind ups from pubescent boys in their 50's...

Just to bring it up to 3 lines:

If there is anything you don't understand in the above sentence, do a google search!

  4. You are much more subtle in your postings. You seem to prefer the silk glove approach rather than the sledge hammer approach preferred by our young friend from Australia.

Since I am a MALE CHAUVINIST PIG, however, neither system works for me. I still think women should be seen and not heard, much as children, and should be sure my beer is nice and cold at all times. I don't want any conversation during Sportscenter but when I do want to talk, I prefer my lady to sit quietly, agree with everything I say and laugh heartily at my jokes. I am not a sex maniac but when the urge strikes me, I expect my lady to gleefully stop what she is doing and happily enjoy my wishes.

The job is open if either one of you would like to apply. :o

No silk gloves for you, chucky darling.

You couldn't find anybody in your own country to fill the vacancy, and the Thais don't want the job, either.

You must be pretty desperate to ask fellow men and feminists to fulfill your infantile phantasies for you.

Have a guess what the answer is going to be?

Sorry, off topic again, should continue this somewhere else, or better still, forget about it.

It took me a while to understand what the poster is trying to say, too.

    I told you the facts...

I hope this is understandable now....

    Johann

    Thank you, Sir!

  6. Judging by your style of writing, Kevin, I wouldn't have guessed you're a longterm resident in Thailand. Let's say it is surprisingly 'undiplomatic'.

i find kevins offerings on this forum to be bitingly accurate, down to earth,no bs opinions of how he sees and lives life here.

i think he has it well worked out.

My apologies, I was reacting to the tone of the last post without knowing much about the person.

And my thanks to Snark, I learned a lot from this thread, have started to practise in front of the mirror, before I out myself as a wai-er in public.

  7. I overheard an early retired former construction-worker from Australia (yes, big-bellied, dressed in rags, drinking from the bottle) proudly declare that he never made a wai and never will make a wai.

Let's hope a rat pissed on the bottle...

  8. I notice there is a fashion now for drinking straight from the bottle there is also a fashion for rats to urinate on bottles, as a rodent they can't control their bowel or bladder movements so they are not proud as to where they do it.

I haven't found any rats in my freezer, yet. But thanks for the warning!

Beetle larvae are quite tasty after a few Chang, when you stop thinking about what it is you are eating....

  9. It took me a while to understand what the poster is trying to say, too.

I think he believes Thai temples couldn't maintain themselves without the 20B he puts in the donation box, so they shouldn't complain about him pissing on the statues!??? -figuratively speaking. No doubt he will post an exhaustive discourse on the subject within the next 2 hours.

  10. A friend?-never mind. Is he single or moving with family?

I don't know Pathumwan very well, but it is not a prime residential area.

For 25 k you can expect to get a decent, furnished 2-3 bedroom apartment with swimmingpool, security, the works, in a central location, price varies from area to area, of course. If willing to commute, a family house with (small)gardens is within the budget. For areas see "living in Bangkok", will your friend work near a skytrain station?

  11. There are behavioral therapists in Bkk, have no details off-hand.

But careful, I am not sure this is a good thing, important is to find a proffessional she can trust.

Have you tried Bamrungrad hospital? Or the small clinics in the Sukhumvit sois, there are some farang practitioners there, doctor or similar qualifications.

  12. "PS : I'm a male chauvinist pig. Should I add that to every post I make? "

No need to, it's clear from what you say.

"40 postings (many of them intelligent one-liner or two-liners without any clear contents) within a single day....

And you are telling me you are a newcomer on this Thaivisa-Forum???"

Some brains work faster than others, btw, 18 minus 15 is how many?

  13. Thai food is the best, the more chilli the better, I'll eat just about anything as long as it's not alive.

    Have you tried Kung Ten?-delicious!

And what about Nam Pik, P'laa (the of rotting shiit stinking stuff, not the sauce),

any parasites hiding in there, waiting to chew one's guts?
