  1. Last time my 90 day report was due I sent it in by registered post with normal post return. I waited and waited and heard nothing from Immigration. Finally I decided to go to the airport office to see what happened to the report I mailed in. The clerk shuffled through a pack of about 50 letters and found mine near the bottom. It was inside the stamped, addressed return envelope but hadn't made it to the post office. The clerk did my report but during the whole time he told me that next time I have to go to Promenada at least 5 times.

Not keen on going to Promenada I decided to use the mail again. I mailed the letter to the airport office on November 17 using EMS so I could track it and also used EMS for the return letter. I just received the return letter at 12 noon (Nov 20). I'm not sure if the difference was using EMS or not. In any case, I am really happy I avoided doing the 90 day report at Promenada as instructed.

  2. Strop the blades 8-10 times before you shave. The results might surprise you. You can triple the number of shaves off a single cartridge, and significantly increase the comfort level of each shave. You don't need anything special to do it with either! Even a piece of denim will work, or a strip cut from the cover of a fancy magazine. (The heavy coated paper stock is VERY effective for honing an edge!) Just cut it to the width of the blades, and about 8" long, and run the razor 'backwards' (away from the edge rather than shaving into it,) along it several times and you'll feel the difference when you shave.

Would a strip of glossy photo paper work?

  3. I went to Laughing Monkey last Saturday morning. I ordered a chicken tikka and a lasagna. Both dishes were great and I will definitely be back to order more. Ian showed me his setup and I was very impressed. Everything is highly organized and Ian is very enthusiastic about food. I sense that this is going to be a very successful business.

  4. I just got an email from Maige TV which I copied below. Problem came at a very awkward time with the NRL finals on at the moment. Fortunately I have another way of accessing Setanta, as long as the internet doesn't go down.

Due to moving servers to a new location many channels on the Maige TV are disabled at the moment.
It might take around 2 weeks until the issue is solved. For some channels it might happen sooner though.

We apologize for the problems, 45 days of subscription have been added to your account as compensation.

  5. My 90 Day Report is due on September 13. On September 1 I sent in my papers to the Old Immigration Office. I registered the letter to Immigration but used normal mail for the return mail. I haven't received the return letter yet with my 90 day slip so I am starting to get worried. In the past the return has only taken 3 to 5 days.

If I don't receive the 90 day slip by next Monday (Sept 14) I am planning to go to the Old Immigration Office some time during the day (not at 5 am.) with the receipt of the registered letter sent. Has anyone else faced a similar problem recently?

I went to Airport Immigration today to see what happened to my 90 day report which I mailed in to Airport Immigration 12 days ago.

The clerk pulled out a clear plastic bag which contained around 40 to 50 90 day report letters. Mine was near the bottom of the pile. It had been processed but not sent out. I now have the slip in my passport but was told many times that from now on I would have to go to Promenada.

  6. With young children --- even older children --- OP, you probably don't have a big problem at all. You have an opportunity! What's the hurry? So many parents are trapped into societal expectations, other peoples' schedules, and just what they are used to.

The experience of a new place (which you can help make exciting or awful by your attitude), if YOU spend the time exploring and enjoying it with them, especially if you take the time to prepare yourself for where you go, what you see, and what you do, will be invaluable for them. Say "WOW!" about new things together! It is an experience that will shape their futures, much more so in some important ways beyond "sticking with the experience" of the routine school experience. Take a new look at this opportunity!

    I totally agree with this.

Experiencing a different culture for 3 months will far outweigh any schooling missed. Spend time with them exploring. Once you arrive I would try to find the nearest Thai school and inquire if the children could attend the school for a few days just for the experience.

  8. I am really disappointed with iLikeHD, particularly the Android app. The Windows application is easy to use but I find the Android app really clumsy.

Even though I have a 30/10 fiber optic connection it buffers for a long time before a channel shows, particularly in the Android app. Sometimes the channels in my paid for package (like Sky Sport channels) become unavailable. Sometimes the Android box channels are not available but the Windows laptop programs are available.

The one great thing about iLikeHD is the month by month payment as I just paid for one month and probably won't waste my money on iLikeHD in the future. On paper the system looks great, but in actual practice there are still a lot of problems. I have another system which I thought was inferior but in fact turns out to be a better system.

  9. Hello, anybody got AIS fiber ? How is it compared to standard ADSL where you live ? At least not worst than adsl ?

How possible that they connect this fiber to your existing wall socket ? It means that fiber go through copper wire before the router?

    Thank you.

I just got AIS Fibre 30Mbs/10Mbs. The speed tests show that I am getting at least the speeds stated.

However, torrent downloads are very slow. Before with 3BB 15mbs/1Mbs I could get speeds up to 1MBs but with the faster optic fiber I can only get around 400KBs. Perhaps there are settings I need to change.

Direct downloads seem to range between 1 and 1.4 MBs which is also a little disappointing.

  10. Just go to LAZADA web site they have lots of models there, starting about 2,500 THB,

you can also have them delivered C.O.D. ,which is good.

Once you get your box, go to tvaddons.ag and download TVMC that is their version

of KODI, and has lots of stuff pre installed, and that will be a lot easier for a beginner,

then you can install more add-ons later, when you are more experienced, this is free,

You can add apps from ilikeHD, but for that there is a monthly charge.

with the box order a wireless keyboard/mouse ,Rapoo is 650 THB.

    regards Worgeordie

    I can't open tvaddons.ag.

  11. About every second or third week I use 5 Liters of raw milk from the dairy opposite the zoo to make yogurt. I heat the raw milk to 84 degrees Celsius and keep it at that temperature for 5 minutes to kill all the bacteria in the raw milk. I let it cool to 45 degrees Celsius and then add some yogurt from the previous batch to introduce the lactic acid eating bacteria (Lactobacillales ) and keep it warm for 6 to 8 hours.

The yogurt can be kept in the refrigerator for several weeks with no problems. I use it mainly for shakes and in cooking. If I need Greek yogurt I strain the yogurt through paper towels for a day or more.

  12. All hail AIS..... its the first I've ever heard of an age policy. What will they dream up next for an excuse???? The mind boggles

I went back to the Central Festival AIS shop to see if the 70 year age limit was for real or not. The person serving me had never heard of it but when he checked he confirmed that it is real.

I am divorced and live in my home alone so I couldn't find a younger person to sign up for me.

However, I have two step daughters from my previous marriage who I am very close to but they attend Mae Fah Luang University near Chiang Rai. I had a copy of the elder step daughter's ID with me and shop attendant took care of everything by contacting my elder daughter and registering my AIS house connection in her name.

I am not connected yet but now I feel confident that I will be connected in the next few days.

A couple of tips for a frustrating situation I just went/am going through. Don't spit the dummy. Be polite at all times. When I found a clerk who seemed to know what he was doing I got his name so I could ask for the same person every time i returned. That really helped a lot.

  13. It's now three weeks since I first went to the AIS Shop in Central Festival to register for AIS Fibre. The reason I went is that AIS rolled out fiber optic cable in my moo bahn and installed a splitter box 100 meters from my home.

Since then I have been given the run around. I have received at least 3 calls (lost track of the exact number) saying that AIS Fibre is not available where I live.

Today I received a call saying that I could be connected but they needed a copy of my passport to verify my identity. After sending my passport by email, I got a call to say that I could be connected to AIS Fibre on Thursday or Friday.

Late in the day I received a call to say that there is a problem and I can't be connected to AIS Fibre because I am over the age of 70. I asked if this was an AIS policy and she said that it is a Thailand wide policy for all companies.

I find this rather hard to believe so I contacted the Call Center (1185) yet again. They told me there is no such policy so now I am back to where I started, wondering if the technicians will finally turn up on Thursday, as promised earlier in the day.

  14. Frankly, i have found some mighty nice shirts, even made in USA, Italy, Hong Kong, etc, at CM thrift shops. Nice cotton, short sleeves and long, interesting patterns and fits. I mean, for under a hundred baht, if it fits your body and your tastes, how could you go wrong? Of course, if yours in an outsized body perhaps the tailor (tentmaker) is needed.

It's National Op Shop Week in Australia this week. I can't quite imagine such a week in Thailand. Trying to stretch the Earth's finite resources a little by wearing recycled clothes is not popular in this country.

There used to be a huge thrift shop on Hang Dong Road, about 150 meters before the turn off into Airport Central, heading North into Chiang Mai. It closed about a year ago. Does anybody know if the shop relocated or did it simply stop doing business?

  15. attachicon.gifIMG_20150812_100202 (Small).jpgattachicon.gifIMG_20150811_162625 (Small).jpgThe firm contracted by AIS rolled out fibre optic cable in my moo bahn a little over two weeks ago. I have been trying to get fibre optic for over a year so was quite excited by the prospect of getting fibre and so I went to register at the AIS shop in Central Festival.
I was very impressed with the shop as they have a special number category for non-Thai speakers and many of the staff speak English quite well. After my registration I received an impressive email that said I would be contacted within 48 hours. That never happened so I called 1186, the call center. I was promised a call within 24 hours but no call eventuated. This cycle was repeated several times.
After a week of this I decided to return to the AIS shop. I was promised (and guaranteed 100%) that I would be contacted by a technician that afternoon. No technician contacted me. About 4 pm that day I got a call from the AIS shop that "your area is not support". I found that very strange given that there is an AIS fiber optic cable 100 meters from my house with a splitter already installed.
That night I decided to call 1185 again. I got a return call several hours later and the man on the line spent more than 30 minutes trying to help me. He told me that my original registration had been cancelled. That made me somewhat angry since no one told me that they had cancelled my registration. He told me to register online but I could not so he registered online for me as I gave him my personal details. The only problem was that the AIS data entry system would not accept the name of my moo bahn. This seems to be why the AIS shop says my area is not supported, even though the cable is sitting there 100 meters from my house. waiting to be connected.
I got an SMS to go back to the AIS office (3rd visit). Before going I wrote up 5 pages of documentation with photographs showing technicians working on the line, the AIS advertising and the splitter box 100 meters from my home. I was told I would be able to get the AIS Fibre but not for 2 weeks. I have since been told it would be next week. Last Friday I got a call to say the technician was coming the next day. Saturday. at 3pm. The technician did not turn up and I have had no contact with anyone from AIS since then.
I'll probably start again tomorrow to find out what happened to the appointment.
If it is this difficult to get connected to AIS Fibre the actual service is probably fantastic because there are so few people able to use it

Every time I call the AIS call center I get an assurance that a technician will call me within 24 hours. This is usually followed by a call 2 days later that AIS Fibre is not available in my area. I left the photographic proof that AIS Fibre is available in my moo bahn but there seems to no communication between the AIS Shop, the technical staff and the AIS Call Center.

Has anybody in Koolpuntville 9 been connected to AIS Fibre?

  16. can you set up auto pay on a PEA account that is not in your name?

When you apply for direct debit from your bank account the name on the electricity bill doesn't seem to matter.

I got my first small bill left in the PEA box today after setting up auto pay and it seems to be identical to previousnon auto pay bills except that the bar codes have not been printed.

  18. So the bouncers beat a customer to death? Lovely.

About a month ago the grand daughter of a classmate made a visit to Chiang Mai. I spent many hours on Google looking for good accommodation for her.

In my Google search I came across two blogs talking about severe beatings at this famous Chiang Mai joint. The injuries required hospitalization and there were strong pleas to potential tourists to stay away for their own safety.

  19. If the valve clearances werent done , spark plug not changed , fuel filter not changed , air filter not changed , and carb not set up , then id go back for a proper service , or better still , go to a better garage .

I didn't go to the shop with the intention of getting the engine serviced. They did the service that I asked for.

When my Honda gives me some indication that the engine requires service I will have the engine serviced, but probably in a Honda dealer shop.
