A tanker truck overturned on a highway in Phrae’s Rong Kwang district on Monday morning, causing many explosions and a fierce fire. The tanker’s driver, Chaichana Praphan, is believed to have been killed in the blaze.

Prasit Limheng, the driver of another tanker truck, told police that he and Chaichana had been on their way to deliver petrol to Laos.

“I was just 50 metres ahead of him when I noticed that the accident occurred,” Prasit said. “I rushed back to help but stopped after hearing nearly 10 explosions at the site.”

The tank contained about 42,000 litres of petrol.

The accident area on Highway 101 was closed to traffic later Monday but officials prepared a road diversion to facilitate the flow of traffic.

Chaichana’s relatives were informed of the accident yesterday.

Rong Kwang district chief Sahawich Apichaiwisarutkul also alerted relevant authorities to extinguish the fire and minimise environmental impacts related to the accident.

Officials planned to remove the tanker truck from highway by Monday afternoon.

Shocking Not  a thing you like to see  I am afraid this is a the a warm up since the government has given the Thais a couple  of more holidays over New year Like the gov is saying Hey drivers since you are so good on the road with your amazing driving skills and for your reward we going to give you an extra couple days off so more of you can kill yourselves

Except that road death numbers are traditionally lower over the holidays.

Maybe Who knows  Dont forget they only count the ones that died at the scene The ones that die later in hospital from the accident dont make the list

What a tragic accident. What a miserable end for Mr Chaichana Praphan.

We don't know the cause.

There is a lot of roadwork going on between Rongkwang and Wiang Sa.

It's a nice but sometimes quite dangerous drive on the 101. With often unsuspected incidents...

It seems more drivers are dying lately.  Sorry about that :violin:

The driver was believed to have be n killed?  Or, what was that booking through the trees!

Driver was killed, his funeral was yesterday, at pua noi 20 kilometers from me.

My wife was at his funeral, his sister is a close friend.

Again that same old incorrect claim.

All deaths are counted.

You know Col we come on here and all complain about the bad Thai drivers  My heart goes out to the ones that are left behind  There will be lots more funerals in the days to come  How do you stop this bloody slaughter i dont know They talk about loosing 1300 per year in Aus from Road deaths Here they loose that many in 3 weeks I think if the Thai drivers just thought about what they are doing maybe the rate will decrease  As for the police well they are just a joke You have a law saying  You must wear a helmet when riding a bike  and still even this morning when i went and took my car to the park to walk you see people still riding bikes with no helmet

Ok u are right i believe you happy now? But dying in  car accident is nothing to be arguing about Its is really about about How do you stop this slaughter? You got any ideas?

His family are devastated, he leaves behind a young daughter ( 11  i think).

Poor girl will now grow up without her father.

Cause of accident unknown, but Chaichana was a tanker driver for 10 years, so not a rookie.

Just correcting your incorrect claim, not interested in a discussion about how that makes me feel.
