Non O Marriage Penang Feb 23 2018

Recommended Posts

Just completed a visa run in Penang via the southern boarder.(success)

Caught morning train from Hatyai station(0730) to Pedang Besar arriving 0930(1 hr) trip.( 70 baht)

Easy stamp out of thailand and stamp into malay at train station.Malay KTM train leaves at 1030 and gets into Butterworth at 1220 (11.40 Ringit)

Bus via train station takes you to ferry(1 ringit to Georgetown).UBER available at ferry terminal or normal taxies but not far from Chulia St.

Visa application at Jims that evening.(820 Ringit)

Required 2 photoes as per application,Copy Tabian baan signed by wife, Copy Id card signed by wife, Bank Book original(had =800,000) and photocopy of front and last balance updated,

Copy of marriage front and back.(took original but not required). He stated copies of childrens birth certs would also help but did not have them.Made us fill out another slip of paper separate requiring a foreign address and also thai address.(apparently putting down a thai address only will not be taken well)

Usual wait one day and pickup next afternoon at 1430.(bank book comes back with passport).

Picked up and by time got organised and across on ferry made the 1630 train back to Pedang Besar.

Train got in and had to walk across footbridge to malay immigration then walk another 500 meters along highway with all manor of tucks etc.(not pleasant) to Thai immigration.

Pulled out of small cue and stamped in by nice immigration lady(head of department).

Was told by local motorbike guys all bus services were finished at 1800. It is 8 kms to the bus station by taxi but could not find one.Started walking towards station and saw bus come past. Asked local policeman and he said he would go and see what he could do.Luckily was on opposite side of road and red rattler bus stopped(42 baht).Asked and indeed last bus leaves at 1830.Took one hour to get to bus station in Hatyai. All in all bit of adventure and got to admit pleasant sitting on the train nice and clean and not busy.

Tips. Baht to Ringit exchange is 8 baht in Hatyai. In Penang its 12 baht....total ripoff. No toilet on KTM train and quick stops so go before you get on 2 hour train ride.Choose carefully where you stay in Georgetown.Got nice accomodation but near mosque so usual noise pollution from 0630 to 2100 at night.
