webfact
Maybe he should clean up the force - cop collects litter in his free time! Pictures: Manager Online Manager visited a career policeman in Chumpon who is well known in the area for collecting roadside litter and stuff to sell in his free time. Hard working Preecha Ratana, 54, who lives in Na Pho sub-district manages to make 10,000 baht extra for his family by picking up trash and repairing old stuff. Reporters found the Sub-Lieutenant at his house surrounded by old items he makes money from - he was repairing a fan at the time. He said that he became a cop in 1987 and has been collecting trash in his spare time for thirty years. He is not embarrassed by that and his wife realizes it is a great use of his time and she appreciates the extra income. He uses a motorcycle with side car attachment or saleng on his frequent travels along the provinces roads. He is know affectionately as "Muat Cha". He said that in addition to clearing up it makes him money. Maybe the government should hire him as an adviser in their much vaunted plan to clean up corruption in the force over the next 20 years. 55Jay
Lovely spin, and not taking away from him pulling a few things out of the many piles of rubbish Thais dump here, there and everywhere.... But his motivation is most likely purely financial, because his police salary is most likely insufficient. He could be as straight as an arrow. Or it could be that Na Pho sub-district isn't bursting with extra earning potential for a motivated Royal Thai Policeman closing in on retirement age.
