Man robs Bt11,000 from Family Mart cash counter

By The Nation

A knife-wielding man tried to force two female staff in a Family Mart shop in Chon Buri province to undress before making off with coins worth Bt11,000 early on Saturday.

The Phan Thong Police Station was alerted to the robbery at 4am at the Family Mart shop in Ban Kao village, Tambon Nong Tamlueng.

Two staffers, Panawan Inang, 26, and Monthira Nikornkul, 21, told police that a tall man with a one-foot long knife walked into the shop wearing a flu mask and forced them into the toilet at the back of the shop.

They said the robber initially forced them to undress but they warned him that police were coming.

They said the man then rushed to the cash counter and grabbed Bt5,000 in 10-baht coins, Bt5,000 in 5-baht coins and Bt1,000 in one-baht coins and left.

Police have yet to check footage of security cameras to try to identify the robber.

That's known as a heavy haul. He'll probably spend the next week at 7-11s and local markets changing the coins to notes. Hopefully he was caught on their CCTV.

Yeah, I bet he can't weight to get rid of all that loose change.

"weight '  is the key word here. What some call a nickel and dime thief. One day he'll graduate to purloining bicycles.

I wonder why on earth anyone in Thailand would commit a crime and involve sexual charges as a part of the crime.

If the perpetrator  wanted to see naked women he must have known full well where that was available.

Hmm, I read the article with a completely different understanding.

Surely, he made them undress in the toilet, with the intention of taking their clothes with him, in order to prevent them rushing out and chase him, or even go into the shop?

Couldn't see the slot machines, so takes 250,000 coins. Either this story is BS, or that's a robber who needs some real change in his methods.

Yes, well spotted.

"making off with coins worth Bt11,000"

"grabbed Bt5,000 in 10-baht coins, Bt5,000 in 5-baht coins and Bt1,000 in one-baht coins."

That makes it 500 10-baht coins, 1,000 5-baht coins and 1,000 one-baht coins, making a total of 2,500 coins.

I think that it's either Family Mart or The Nation reporter who needs some real change in their method of arithmetic.

Never spoil a good story with details.

So, when are the police going to check the CCTV? Guess they are in no real hurry, maybe check out the two girls first!

That's probably why they're in no hurry - they're still examining in great detail the video footage with the two girls.

Give him a head start. Why check the footage at all?

Yes, when zeros get added the maths usually goes out of the window. As an aside, the weight of 1000 UK pound coins comes in at 9.5kg, which might be comparable with the haul of 5 baht pieces. Add in the rest and it could be around 15-20kg in his swag bag.
