SATTAHIP:--The Ministry of Industry has expressed its confidence that the U-Tapao International Airport redevelopment project, part of an overall plan for an Eastern Airport City, will attract many investors.

Industry Minister, Dr. Uttama Savanayana, said the terms of reference (TOR) for the development would be released soon, and the project will be opened to private companies to compete for work on the aviation facilities, which will cover 225 acres.

“Even though the development of the U-Tapao International Airport and the Eastern Airport City has been delayed as a result of waiting for the implementation of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Act, which became effective in the middle of this month, we are quite confident that we will get the names of investors for different projects for the development of airport this year,” Dr.Uttama said.

Under the original timeframe, the invitation for private sector to invest in the U-Tapao project was to be conducted between March and June this year. The Industry Minister said the names of those who win the bids would be announced in September.

Why such optimism ?  It is an airport near Pattaya.  All the other hub talk, up until now, is just talk.   Have yet to hear anything that is exciting.

Isn't that "near"?  The distance between Tokyo and Narita Airport is 63.56 km.  The trend for airports is not to put them in densely populated urban areas like the old HK airport, unless you like passengers peering into your window as they land

A post has been removed.

The distance will differ considerably depending if one takes the much longer route on Sukhumvit road through Sattahip or the much shorter route cutting across to the 331 via the Phoenix road.

I measure from Ban Ampur to the 331 using the cut through via Wat Yaan to the 331 the distance is 11k  and then its maybe 10k  down the 331 and across via 332 straight to Utapao gate, add the distance from Ban Ampur to Pattaya and I would agree with 35 to 40k overall.

not need google maps I used the odometer in my truck

The odometer in your truck doesn't know if you are taking the shortest possible route..... Which it seems you didn't if you travelled about double the distance other people do

The only way you can make it to Utapao from Pattaya and the distance come to around 60Km is if you head up north to 36 either using the Hwy7 or Via Sukhumvit and then down to Utapao on the 331

Otherwise, crossing from Sukhumvit to 331 either at Silverlake or Phoenix or even going down to Utapao using Sukhumvit alone via Ban Chang should be more than 40-45Km
