Questions Re New Airport? + Car-mini Van Hire?

I expect all my questions have been answered in some other topics but I would like to get some latest info. and advice if possible please.

We are travelling (hopefully airport still open) in March for 1st time to and from new BKK airport.

We generally have loads of luggage + the children and from Don Muang normally took 2 x taxis each way.

Can some members please advice about the following.

A)I have heard of some difficulties with strange bus/taxi system now going. Could be really bad for us after long intl flight with 2 or 3 young kids and all luggage etc. Can you still get a taxi from the departures area as we used to do in Don Muang? Or any other suggestions such as a large mini van at a reasonable cost? We go to central BKK.

B) How long does the journey generally take from airport to somewhere like Grand Hyatt area in Rajdamri at say 10.30pm from airport?

C) How much might taxis cost for this trip and are there toll ways to pay?

D) When subsequently departing and needing to get to airport at about 5.30pm on a weekday how much time would you suggest for travelling from Grand Hyatt/Rajdamri area to airport?

E) Anyone know of a good mini bus or mini van type with driver we can book in BKK to go to airport for large family and lots of luggage? Any contact info. would be welcome.

F) A Query not connected to airport. Can anyone suggest/recommend a good value and good service hire car firm for hiring a car for between 2 & 4 days at a time from central BKK. Maybe a company that will drop the vehicle off at our condo and collect when hire completed. Maybe a company that can also offer some sort of mini van also?

Thanks and best wishes to all members.

The taxi system from the new airport is o.k you pay 50 baht plus tollway though a good taxi driver at that time of night will probably not go on the tollway as when there is no traffic the other roads are just as quick.

airport-Hyatt about 45-60min

going the other direction at the 5.30pm I would think 11/2-2 hrs.

the cost will be about 250baht plus about 60 tollways depending on the driver the most I

have paid is 350 baht.

I dont know when you were in BKK last but now they have some new taxi`s kinda cross between a 4wd and a station wagon,so when you go down to the ground floor of the airport to the taxi stand you will see a couple of them lined up with the rest of the taxi`s

when the boy takes your bags to another taxi just insist on a bigger one and it should be no problem he will organise it for you and I think these type of taxi`s should be big enough for you and your family and will save you having to take to taxi`s

Thanks very much for the info- very useful.

Does your reply mean that you can get a taxi direct from arrivals at the airport? I was under the impression that you had to get into some sort of bus or coach first to take you to another place to then get a taxi. This would be a bit of a drag when one has family and loads of bags etc after long intlk flight and even having to worry about all the bags whilst doing all this. What is the situation please?

The taxi stand is at the bottom floor of the airport no buses required just an elevator its all fairly well sign posted when you come out past customs go left to the escalators and go down I think 2 or 3 floors until you come to the taxi stand

Hi NiceFarang,

I'm happy to drive you and your family around while you are here in Bangkok. I have a mini van and we can talk about the hiring price later. I know my way around Bangkok well.

Send me a reply if you are interested, and maybe I will be your travel companion here in Bangkok. Hope to hear from you soon.

To take a taxi to the airport book a taxi by calling 02 9114444 and ask for a big car (the green and yellow 4WD looking cars, izusus I think). Costs an extra 20 baht on top of the meter. Very reliable company - can call the night before for early bookings, or call when you need it - usually 20 minutes wait.

Thanks very much to all for your replies- really helps.

The isuzus and booking sounds great. Do you mean only 20 baht on top of the total meter journey cost which would be a miniscule extra charge? Or perhaps the meters are at a higher level anyway per KM?

Also do you think these vehicles would be capabale of taking say the following or if not how much might you uess?:-

3 x adults, 2 x children, 2 x bike boxes, 1 x ski bag, 8 x medium size 15kg bags?
