The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is seeking public donations of trees for its project to turn the capital green by next year.

Chatree Watanakhachorn, director of the BMA’s Environment Department, said the project is part of the prime minister’s policy to have government agencies in the capital plant 100,000 trees by 2020 to boost greenery.

Chatree said his department has surveyed areas that would be suitable for growing trees, including pavements, roundabouts, open space and BMA offices.

The survey found that the BMA would need 53,272 trees to plant as part of the project with 7,682 trees in the north, 3,069 in the centre, 4,578 in the south, 19,022 in the east, 4,656 in north Thonburi and 14,265 in south Thonburi.

Chatree said donations would save the BMA cash.

He said suitable trees were thong urai or yellow elders, banyans, canna, bullet woods and silver trumpets.

They pay workers to cut them down and then want the people to give them new ones !!  Pathetic bunch of losers running the city.

Exactly ! Cutting them down all over the place to put in more concrete structures ! Another meaningless media image stunt ! Seems so easy to con the Thai masses !
