The Government Pension Fund (GPF) is confident of the Thai economy expanding 2.9 per cent in the third quarter, followed by 3.1 per cent in the fourth quarter, said Secretary-General Vitai Ratanakorn. The economy grew 2.5 per cent in the first half of 2019.

Its growth forecast took into consideration the government's launches of a series of economic stimulus, such as measures to boost spending via state welfare card, support for farmers, domestic tourism promotion to increase consumption, and incentives to spur SME investment. These are expected to generate Bt320 billion in cash flow to the economic system.

However, the strengthening baht remains a risk factor to growth, given the country's continued current account surplus. The strong baht will impact on the expansion of Thai exports in the long term.

As of the October 31, the GPF portfolio delivered a return of 4.7 per cent.

Currently, GPF has Bt935 billion under its management. It has invested in 15 types of assets, both in Thailand and abroad.

And to add that BOT will not in 2019Q3 & 2019Q4 not depreciate the value of the baht.
