Pixar introduces first lesbian character in new film Onward

Disney's Pixar has introduced its first self-identifying LGBTQ character in new fantasy film Onward.

The film about young elves (Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) who discover a wizard’s staff features a lesbian character, Officer Specter – a cyclops police officer voiced by out actor Lena Waithe.

Rumours that Pixar would bring an LGBTQ character to the big screen were first circulated on Reddit four months ago, after a still from the trailer appeared to show a female couple.

Slate confirmed that Specter identifies as queer, citing a line of dialogue she delivers as she sympathises by a driver stressed by the behaviour of his girlfriend’s sons: “My girlfriend’s daughter got me pulling my hair out.”

I doint go to movies to have my sensibilities woken. I go to be amused and entertained. Being lectured isnt entertaining to me.

Well said - and most people feel the same way.  That is why 'woke' movies are invariably broke movies. Recently Charlies Angels, Terminator: Dark Fate, and who can forget Ghost Busters (the all girl version) - actually I want to forget it but I cant.

Was listening to a radio show the other day, and the DJ was introducing Sam Smith's new song. He said something like: "And Sam Smith comes into the charts at number 3, with their first hit of 2020. They'll be really pleased...etc". And I was thinking, why did he say 'their' and they'll, and not 'his' and 'he'll'?! So I googled and found this...

Sam Smith has announced that they are changing their preferred pronouns to the gender-neutral “they” and “them” instead of “he” and “him”.
