Up to 500 boxing fans could be infected, undetected

Health authorities have been able to track down only 55 of the thousands of people who were watching boxing matches at Bangkok’s Lumphini Stadium on March 6 when the Covid-19 virus was being transmitted in the crowd.

Public Health Ministry spokesperson Taweesin Visanuyothin said on Friday (March 20) that, while many of the 55 fans found have tested positive, the number of infections that day could be as many as 500.

Everyone who was at the stadium on March 6 should be tested, he said.

The number of infections confirmed so far is statistically not enough considering the stadium’s capacity, he said, but investigators sifting through social media have been unable to identify more fans from that day.

Taweesin issued a similar warning to anyone who’s been frequenting Bangkok entertainment venues, another source of contagion.

The volume of people at such places is often so high that anyone who’s been out dining and drinking or watching stage shows should stay home in self-quarantine and wait out the 14 days it can take for symptoms of infection to appear.

If they want people to test who are not wealthy and possibly now losing salary and income from industry closures......then for the love of Buddha........

Make the tests and follow up treatment totally free of cost and freely available at as many hospitals nationwide as possible at least to their own citizens if not everybody.

To cover the costs, under the circumstances divert the funds from the military budgets.

The Chinese have already given Thailand a head start on the Corona virus they dont need their submarines.

Hindsight would suggest that this event should have been postponed... being such a large gathering, but money talks as usual.

They have wedding going on today with hundreds of plastic chairs all ready for guests.

Whats wrong with people .

My wife said they already booked it and wouldn't get there money back for food etc .

That's the problem people risk there life and others for saving money.

but we farangs in need for a visa, have to go to immigration (40 km taxi for me one way) instead of extending everybody automatically till this circus is over

My well informed Thai friend postponed his daughters wedding party.    This guy is smart, shame other Thais are not the same.  Well over 500 guests. We can wait gracefully.

They're pretty useless anyway, other than for those already infected.

No date on it either.

Way too late to chase after those spectators, in the 2 weeks since each of them has come in contact with hundreds of others, who again have come in contact....
