Two more held for selling medicines touted to treat virus

Featured Replies

Two more people have been arrested for allegedly peddling medicines said to be able to treat COVID-19, while Ministry of Commerce’s officials have also cracked down on the sale of 3,000 litres of counterfeit alcohol sanitisers.

National Police spokesman Lieutenant General Chhay Kim Khoeun said yesterday the two suspects were arrested by police on Wednesday in Kampong Chhnang province’s Teuk Phos district after they were caught advertising and selling the medicines. “We don’t know where they brought the medicines from and believe it is only used to boost energy levels,” he said. However, they were going around the market and advertising that it could cure COVID-19, which is an illegal act.”

“All citizens please be careful and follow the instructions of the Government as well as the Ministry of Health, Lt Gen  Kim Khoeun added. “Do not believe in the information from such opportunists, as it [such medicines] could be harmful to your health.” He said as of yesterday afternoon, sixteen people have been apprehended so far in connection with the production and sale of unregistered rapid COVID-19 test kits.
