Years ago (25+) when I was young and nieve, I rode an elephant at a "sanctuary." There was not as much information then on how degrading this life was for the elephant. Now, I think that there is more information about the negatives of this practice on the lives of elephants. Yet, there are still places everywhere that still offer the service. In addition, there is now a piliferation of "elephant sanctuaries" in tourist locations claiming that they are "saving" elephants, while the vast majority of them still have shackled elephants performing for tourist dollars. It is all very sad - it is a wonder that more elephants don't revolt.
