Open source is the only choice for encryption purposes for me. This stunning ("use bitlocker") message at the closure of the Truecrypt site should raise extreme suspicion. Some seem never have heard about gag orders from secret US court proceedings? Veracrypt as well as Truecrypt 7.1a have been code reviewed and there was no indication of any backdoors. It has improvements compared to Truecrypt 7.1a based on weaknesses found there. Edited January 11, 2022 by KhunBENQ
Negita43
One advantage of 7Zip encrypted files is that it works in windows and there is a version for Android so you can encrypt in windows but decrypt on an Android device. When I travel I have all my personal info (passport tickets etc) encrypted on to a USB with 7 Zip. If necessary the files can be unencrypted via OTG on my mobile phone.
