BANGKOK (NNT) - By-elections for vacant MP seats in Chumphon and Songkhla have concluded, with the government coalition parties as well as the prime minister asserting that coalition parties will continue to perform their duties to the public despite having intensely competed for the seats.

Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed confidence that intense competition in the by-election for the MP seats in Songkhla and Chumphon would not affect the work of the government coalition. He said will congratulate whoever wins each of the seats and the coalition parties will continue to collaborate to address the many problems that remain unsolved.

Chief government whip Nirote Sunthornlekha said the results of the by-election in the two provinces will not impact the work of the coalition parties. He added that the Palang Pracharath Party fielded candidates in the two constituencies despite the Democrat Party having won the previous election as it wanted to retain its voters base and heed the demand of party supporters. Mr. Nirote said Palang Pracharath leader Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon has congratulated the winners, and the government coalition parties will continue to work together normally.

Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul said the competition during the election time will not affect the performance of the government coalition.

According to the unofficial count, the Democrat Party won both seats in Sunday’s (16 Jan) by-elections in Chumphon and Songkhla.
