Severe flooding hit much of Phuket over the weekend causing chaos on the roads and many to miss flights.
Phuket airport extended checking in times but still many visitors missed flights, many arrivals also struggled to reach their destination.


Flooding is still affecting much of central and north east Thailand. 

 

A 26-year-old woman who suffered 85 percent burns during the fire at the Mountain B pub on August 5th at Sattahip has died, bringing the death toll to 25. 


The pub owner had paid 175 thousand baht compensation for medical bills but the family had to find a further 300 thousand. Families of the victims are seeking further compensation through the courts.


Authorities demolished the remains of the pub over the weekend. 

 

Former finance minister Korn Chati-kavanij became the new leader of the Chart Pattana-kla Party over the weekend,


Mr, Korn replaces Mr Tewan who resigned so the party could elect a new 30-member executive committee. 
Mr Suwat Lipta-panlop remains the party chairman. 

 

Thailand's The National Research Council is to  generate awareness about electronic waste,   the idea is to reduce the impact on the environment from discarded computers, house hold appliances and , consumer electronic devices.. University researchers found the country produces about 428,000 tonnes of e-waste per year.

Myanmar: Jailed Australian economist Sean Turnell,  former advisor to Aung San Suu Kyi, has been transferred to Insein Prison in Yangon after being sentenced to three years’ jail for violating the Official Secret Act and another three years for breaching the Immigration Act.


Mr Turnell was transferred at the end of September but the news has just been made public.

 

Malaysia: Torrential rain has brought flooding to much of Penang, with several homes inundated, authorities received calls from several families saying they had  been cut off. A group of 44 people stranded near a waterfall were being rescued.
