BANGKOK, Feb 22 (TNA) – The cabinet approved the delay in imposing Euro 5 emission standard on newly manufactured vehicles, said deputy government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek.

The delay is made from the year 2021 to January 1, 2024 due to the spread of COVID-19 pandemic which has hindered private sector’s manufacturing plan and their compliance with the enforcement of Euro 5 emission standard in 2021.

Enforcement postponement of Euro 5 emission standard will practically allow the private sector to be ready for full compliance.

BS

"Enforcement postponement of Euro 5 emission standard will practically allow the private sector to be ready for full compliance."

Yes the vehicles which the auto manufacturers did NOT make because of the Covid panic will not have to be modified at great expense, since the downtime during the Covid panic was put to much better use than retooling the empty assembly lines......

Meanwhile the panel showed great concern about the toxicity of Thai air having set the safe level at twice that of Europe.

Well at least the magnificent air quality will stay the same

Not ideal but doesn't appear unreasonable to me.

Don't forget the other side of the equation, it is quite possible vehicle sales slumped during COVID, so I assume the car manufacturers will be looking to offload their existing  non-compliant inventory into the market before the new regulations kick-in.
