The World Health Organization (WHO) advisory groups have selected a flu virus lineage discovered and sequenced in Thailand as one of the three strains for the manufacturing of a novel influenza vaccine.

The vaccine, set to be used in the Southern Hemisphere in 2024, was chosen by vaccine regulatory agencies, influenza vaccine producers, and the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS) members during their meetings in late September, as revealed by the Thailand Ministry of Public Health.

Yongyot Thammawut, a deputy permanent secretary temporarily acting as the permanent secretary of the ministry, underscored the significance of this selection.

“The inclusion of the influenza lineage detected in Thailand in the 2024 influenza vaccine has reflected the effective cooperation and pivotal role of Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health in the global efforts to ensure the health security of the world’s population.”

The science behind flu shots: A roll of the dice.  A pull of the slots handle.  A spin of a roulette ball.
Around and around and around it goes, and where it stops, nobody knows.
Best of luck.

Yeah, it takes so long to grow the vaccines that they need to make an educated guess as to which versions of the virus will be circulating many months in advance of when they expect it to circulate.

You may it sound like they just make one randomly.

They have to try to predict well ahead of time, but even 50% is way better than the 0% you get from not taking the vaccine.

Here's the efficacy chart for non-vaccinated:   0 ____________________________

Haven't had a flu shot in 20 years.  Haven't had the flu in 20 years.  About 100% efficacy.

^^ Just had it and you don’t want it. Covid is a joke compared to the flu and it is prevalent at the mo. People are vaccine weary, but if you’re an oldie it is probably worth it.
