I normally like to sip on a beer or 10 in the car on the way home, it used to be easy enough to buy them at the 7 near the carpark in the old airport or the store on the left before you hit Vibhavadee.

But with the new airport I cannot find where to buy, plus the time restrictions make it hard to book a flight that will land when the shops are still selling.

So, considering my recent interest in wine I thought I might buy a bottle before I it passport control.

Is this possible? (I haven't bothered with Duty Free alcohol for years) and from where?

I find a few sips from an alcoholic beverage during the 2 hours ride home is a great way to relax/wind down after flying.

Any thoughts folks?

I think you're looking for the ultimate bout of relaxation in behaving that way. :o

Apologies, I will try to behave better next time. However I still want to buy a bottle of wine for the journey home. Any thoughts? or too naughty for you?

Ahh, your presuming I will be driving at the same time? If so your comment makes more sense now.

No, I do not drink and drive and certainly do not condone it. That's what is so relaxing about having a drink on the way home, sit and watch the scenery go by whilst someone else drives.

Aside from the 'drinking while driving' issue, yes, you can purchase duty free alcohol in the baggage claim area upon arrival (within your customs allowed quota). There is a King Power shop in the center of the baggage claim area.

I that case enjoy the ride and the wine ! :D

Thanks mate, I have never seen it but I am usually too interested in getting out of there to bother looking. Plus I try to travel light with carry on only.

It never occurred to me that someone would think I might drink the wine whilst driving myself, apologies for the somewhat snappy remark earlier mate. :D

There are duty-free shops before Immigration (which you may or may not pass on your walk from your arrival gate) and inside the baggage claim area (after Immigration but before Customs). These shops, actually more like stands, are a bit small so have a limited selection but I have seen some wines on display. I usually purchase 1L of Whisky, from the stand in the baggage claim area. You will need to show your passport and boarding card.

there are lots of places to buy alcohol on the way out but when you come in there is just som,e little places with 1/8 the selection. i did not see wine as i recall. i think youll have to go upstairs for it.

also - buy one bottle, there was a warning about +1L. ive never been checked but if you are youll be fined big sure.

I don't know about Thai law.

But in U.S. if you have open bottle for alcohol in your vehicle, you will get ticket for fine when you get caught by police officer even though you are not drinking.

Any comment ?

Are you kidding? Motorbike taxi drivers can be seen drinking on the side of the road every day in Bangkok.

While playing "find the taxi stand," somewhere around the escalators I ran into a convenience store near some food shops. I think it was toward one end of the terminal like far to the right as you face the street, but I was goal oriented and not mapping the place. Not sure what level either or if they sell alcohol but maybe someone will be familiar with it.

Not to mention the rogue Excise agents who are hanging about in the Arrivals hall, after you have passed through Customs. They are specifically looking to bust people with excess duty free.

King Power will only sell you 1L per person at SVB ... this is a big change from the duty free arrivals at Don Muang where I regularly stocked up on several bottles of Penfolds Red at big discounts to Bangkok retail prices! :o

There's a Family Mart down on the ground floor. Come out of the terminal, facing the Metered Taxi rank, turn left. Keep walking outside past the food court and you'll find it. They don't sell beer in the afternoons though, and they seem to stick to that law, at least when i've tried buying anyway.
