Trumpery

According to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), trumpery has both noun and adjective uses:

Noun

• Worthless nonsense or trivial things: foolish talk, showy but useless objects, or trivialities.

• Historically, it could also mean deceit or fraud, coming from Old French tromperie (“deceit, trickery”).

Adjective

• Showy but of little value: something that looks impressive but is actually cheap, worthless, or insubstantial.

• Often used in a slightly old-fashioned or literary sense.

Example (OED style): “He filled the room with trumpery ornaments.”

So, in short: trumpery refers to things that appear flashy or important but are actually worthless or nonsensical.

Trump trumped the cackling idiot Harris at the 2024 election.

I wouldn't say Harris is an idiot, but she was a completely silly choice, a flat personality. I hope they choose someone more charismatic next time.
