Trump throwing his toys out of the pram once again.

On Monday, President Trump signed three proclamations that are set to impose 50% tariffs in response to Canadian actions around automobiles, alcohol, and dairy products. The new duties would apply to a wide array of Canadian goods.

A senior administration official described the impact as "ranging from wine to hockey sticks to cement." The automobile proclamation alone listed 18 pages of goods eligible if the action goes forward.

The tariffs are set to be levied under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 but won't go into effect for 30 days. The use of this law is likely to bring forth immediate legal challenges but does allow tariffs of up to 50%.

The tariffs will not apply to goods like oil, of which Canada is a major producer and which US refineries rely on, as well as potash, a key ingredient in fertilizer that US farmers use extensively.

Did Canada ever consider adding a 50% EXPORT tariff on those goods?

Canada doesnt have a damn say in any of this.

I think they did, and I think they will -- making the hapless American consumer pay double for the privilege of supporting Trump.

I think it is great, it is hastening the decoupling from the USA, while strengthening the connection of Canada to an ever stronger Europe.

Let's just hope we have decoupled enough, so an imploding USA does not pull us all down as well. Well, sseing the USA burn to ashes might be even worth that.
