Assuming you have basic knowledge about the documented conditions in Thai prisons vs. Norweigan prisons, take your pick.

No thanks, neither. Overnight stays in USA local lock ups was enough. I enjoy my freedom.

I'll never understand career criminals, and with their mentality, you can't build enough prisons. Need more 3 strike laws, or even 2 strike laws, with life, no parole for criminals. That 2nd felony should be enough for life imprisonment.

Enforce that, and felony crime would drop to near -0-

They simply don't deserve to walk among us. Most crime is by repeat offenders. Nuff said.

Neither isn't a choice mate.

Norway better. Like being at home. Visited Thai prisons and the guards carrying large batons put me off.

Obviously MUCH better but the choice presented is 5 years in Norway vs. 1 year in Thailand. Still an easy choice.

My guess is that you never tried to smuggle a suitcase full of Thai Ganja into the EU.

Man at airport: "Can you carry this suitcase for me. I'll pay you $2000 in Oslo!"
Me: "Are you <bleeping> kidding me? Not just 'No,' but '<bleep> No!"

I have absolutely no sympathy for drug mules. They get offered money, they take their chances. If they get busted - don't whine.
If you can't do the time, don't commit the crime."

On the learning Thai joke, if you did learn Thai in prison it would be the lowest grade type of Thai imaginable.

If you have money, some physical strength and the right attitude, you can do quite well in a Thai prison and get through one year. Even so, I would still choose five years in a Norwegian prison for two reasons. The time you spend in custody before trial is deducted from your sentence, and in Norway you may normally be released after serving two thirds of the sentence. That means one prison year can be around eight months, although early release is not guaranteed. You may also be granted regular leave after serving part of your sentence, depending on your conduct, security considerations and an individual assessment.

In Thailand, it can take a year before your case even comes to trial, so there is much more uncertainty. You may also be released after serving half your sentence and sent back to your home country, but that is not guaranteed.

But if the choice is fixed at one year in a Thai prison or five years in a Norwegian prison, and I have enough money to make prison life easier, I believe I could do the one year in Thailand.
