Trucks On Kpg

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else think it's getting just a little bit stupid here with regards to the construction trucks?

They drive the roads here like they just don't give a ###### about anything, they hog the entire road and don't care a fig what happens.

Just yesterday my girlfriend witnessed a farang on a scooter get run off the road in Ban Tai, the truck was coming down the centre of the street at about 70kmph, parked cars either side and a farang on a scooter coming the other way, what did the truck do? Sounded his horn and ran the guy off the road onto the pavement causing a very nasty accident for the poor guy.

Every day I am forced to pull over to the side of the road at least once as a truck just ignores the fact I am there and decides to use my side of the bend so he can get back to the bloody quary 1 second faster and pick up his next load of sand.

My girlfriend gives me a real serious look tonight and tells me if I get into an accident with a truck to make sure I get up and walk, cos' it's cheaper for the driver to reverse over me and pay for me to visit Buddha than it is to pay the hospital bill. I thought she was joking at first but she was dead serious, scary stuff.

Actually, this kind of driving goes on all over Thailand. We were driving up north (thailand) a few years ago and were run off the highway by a large truck overtaking another large truck on a hill (going up the hill) and he was in our lane.

Truck drivers in this country tend to be very dangerous drivers, IME. They seem to have the belief that the bigger they are the more rights they have. Doesn't seem to matter if the road is narrow or if there is oncoming traffic.
