PERFORMANCE TEST

Scenario 1:

Platform: CPU AMD X2 3800+, 2GB RAM, LAN 1Gpbs

Speed measurements in seconds, without Vista’s Cache-Optimizing

Test1: Copy 1GB Data over LAN

Test 2: Copy 1GB Data local, HD-HD

Test 3: open Excel File 1MB, Calculation and Graphic, with Office 2003

Test 4: open Excel File 1MB, Calculation and Graphic, with Office 2007

post-1370-1196848547_thumb.jpg

Conclusion:

SP3 Windows XP and SP1 Vista increase the communication speed and decrease Application speed.

Scenario 2:

Compare Platform CPU AMD X2 3800+, 2GB RAM, LAN 1Gpbs and

CPU Intel Core2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz, 2GB RAM, LAN 1Gpbs

post-1370-1196848761_thumb.jpg

Conclusion:

For Vista, Intel the better Platform ;-)

The real speed of the AMD X2 3800+ is 2.01 GHz compare to the Intel Core2 Duo E6600 which is 2.40GHz, just a difference from 390 MHz!

And you need to compare the MB's as well and that's can be a big difference.

Anyway, the AMD X2 3800+ is an quite old CPU: 2 + years!

Reimar, u right, it’s not 100% fair. Bud I don’t like to buy now an AMD CPU and Mobo with similar specs. only for Tests. Anyway, the results can be useful to Change the OS, install SP’s or not.

Many unbelievable Results are tested many times.

For Pantip-Software-Shoppers it’s not recommended to install Vista’s SP1:

and “slmgr –dlv” is history to.

Thanks for the review Drake.

Just curious, what version of Win2K3 was used and what service pack? Also, was Win2K3 'optimized' for use as a workstation at all? (Hardware accelleration for video, CPU priority for programs, etc.)

Until we get speed tests regarding movie conversion, and audio conversion, plus game frame rates, its all just a shot in the dark. :o

Edit @ gharknes

You only installed an Alfa model, we all need to wait for the Beta/public release model, then we can see the real speed comps.

Scenario 3:

Platform: CPU AMD X2 3800+, 2GB RAM, LAN 1Gbps

Speed measurements in seconds, without caching

Vista, SP1 Beta, RC1

Test 1: Copy 1GB Data over LAN

Test 2: Copy 1GB Data local, HD-HD

Test 4: open Excel File 1MB, Calculation and Graphic, with Office 2007

Test 5: open Excel File 1MB, Calculation and Graphic, with Office 2007 SP1

Conclusion:

Small application improvement, Excel still slow.

(Sorry, I have no Intel Shares)

Scenario 4:

Platform CPU Intel Core2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz, 2GB RAM, LAN 1Gbps

post-1370-1197478568_thumb.jpg

Conclusion:

Application improvement

Comment:

Please, don’t understand this test as official reference!

It’s made for me to know where the train is going.

Other tests give maybe different results.

Anyway, its recommended to install the Service-Packs, XP/SP3 with 114 security updates and 959 hotfixes ,

Vista SP1 performance improvement, function extensions, new functions like exFAT, 802.11n?, SSTP and more.

Tip: If u has Nokia-Suite installed, Vista RC1 refuses installation without any msg.

Uninstall Nokia, install RC1, and reinstall Nokia, this works.

Uninstall RC1 before 2008-07-01 (expires), bud first Nokia.
