Hey all..

im 24 years old.. i have travelled all over central america. I am from Canada. I've lived for 5 years in costa rica and some months in panama.. so i know what the 3rd world countries are all about.

I am now looking to go to thailand for a month. I will be arriving in mid february. I need to know this: Whats the best beach towns? I do not want to end up somewhere thats just one huge tourist trap. Where is the best/dryest weather (not lookin to be rained on too much) and thats close or on the beach? Where would you guys recommend for me? I love the beach. I need to get away. Help.

In your other post you say that you are coming to Thailand with some friends for 3 to 6 months.

Might I suggest a modest investment, in a copy of the Lonely Planet Guide to Thailand. It is simply the Best guide to a country, backpacking or on a richer budget, that I've ever encountered !

Personally I'd recommend Hua-Hin, South of Bangkok, and Ao Nang near Krabi, or for a first island Samui, but a little more information on your liking for peace-and-quiet or an active social-scene would help us give better advice.

Have a good trip, and welcome to the Land-of-Smiles ! :o

It's Thailand, it's user friendly, it's cheap to move about. You're coming in February, it won't be too wet anywhere. Head to Krabi, find a beach, if you don't like it, move on.

Now suck it up, and get on with it.

Great advice.

I'll get the lonely planet book as well.

thanks all.

I suppose a good month itinerary would include spending a couple of days in Bangkok, heading south to Phuket, base yourself at Kata yai and explore the coastline by bike. Then catch the ferry to Phi Phi stay on Long beach - you can snorkell directly off the beach with good depths of clarity. Next get the ferry to Krabi town. From here explore the area , Hat Railay, Koh Poda, Au Nang and then over the peninsula to Surat Thani and then do Samui, Phangan and Koh Tao.

I will add:

If you was just wanting to kick back on an Island for a month I recommend Koh Chang on the eastern sea board in the gulf of Thailand.
