Niloc Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I just got my Windows box back from the local guru and the clown has installed bloody Windows XP!! I had a great system with Windows 2000 but now I have a whole lot of utilities I do not want and can't seem to get rid of either!! Such as 'Fire line Fasthelper', I can't remove it, format the volume or get around it any way. Some silly virus detector which I did manage to remove... I tried to re-install XP but the CD refuses to boot, I tried to put Win2K back but the floppy refuses to read the disk. All I want is a system that works. My main system is Linux and it is great, all I want Windows for is to run my compiler (Delphi 7).... Can someone please help!!
RKASA Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 sounding like a rebuild time. You have the 2k software do a reinstall lord knows the linux is easy to put back from backup. Who knows what else is on the drive I would nuke it with errasser and start over.
Veazer Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Couldn't you just run the compiler within WINE and ditch windows?
tigerbeer Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 would xplite work? to get rid of all the extras.
RKASA Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Couldn't you just run the compiler within WINE and ditch windows? Wine is not all that great many programs that run in it don't run well, I have it installed and use it for IE6 from time to time. mostly don't use it at all. I found a linux for everything but some older games which run on windows so I keep it installed for others to use. I would be shocked if a compiler were to run well in wine, but then it just might, its easy to try.
britmaveric Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ dunno if it will work for you, but worth a try.
Thanh-BKK Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Hi If you want W2K i suppose you have a CD for it? Why don't you boot from that CD and do a "clean install" which will format the hard drive and thereby wipe out the installed system? If the machine doesn't boot from CD you will need to set that in the BIOS, usually you have to hit the "del" key while booting to get there (but it depends on the type of BIOS, just look at the screen when you start the computer, it says something like "hit XXXX to enter setup". In there check for "Boot Order" or similar, make sure the CD drive is the first boot device. Best regards..... Thanh
