Its going to be the same if not worse than looking for teaching work in Patters, Chaing Mai, Phuket etc was in the past. A thousand wannabe 'teachers' for a handful of places.

Bear in mind that every single backpacker is going to want to teach somewhere like Krabi.

My advice if you want to get work in a popular tourist destination is to be the best qualified, the most persistent and most presentable. Don't be afraid to slag off any competiton in a nice way of course.

I didn't do it myself but a mate did in Krabi town and the state schools are crying out for native English speakers in the area. He had no qualifications and no work permit, but 2 school principals offered to get him all the necessary paperwork. He went through a Phuket-based teacher supply org who've set up in Krabi (he didn't recommend them I must emphasise) and they put him in front of a class early in his training. Allegedly when the principal heard, she ordered "Don't let him leave!".

There are simply nowhere near enough farangs living outside the major tourist areas, whereas all the schools have to provide so many hours of English teaching a year. When you get out to the smaller nearby towns the situation's even more acute.

You could try going through that org, or that mate even walked into a school without an appointment and they were ready to sign him up there & then.

I've worked in Krabi for just over one year. First, I will say stay away from that Phuket-based "agency". She is decietful, a crook, and will screw you over! If you want to teach, just get out and hit the pavement. I "washed up" in Karbi quite by accident, but once there, absolutely loved it. I just printed off some resumes and hit the local high schools and luxury hotels. Within a week, I had a terrific job in a very nice beachfront hotel as a full staffmember, which included a free bungalow and meals. The pay wasn't much, but most things were provided by the hotel, so I didn't need to make very much.

HMMM. I wonder who you could be referring to? HMMM. Is the aforementioned still in business? The silver lining to that experience is that whenever I feel like complaining about something at my school I just refer back to that "experience" and nothing seems even in the same ballpark or hemishpere as that complete, total and utter living hel_l. Kudos for your extremely polite description of " the agency". you're better than most.

back to the topic. A couple years ago I worked at Kanchanapisek outside of Krabi. Aweome school, awesome teachers, awesome students. only drawback is that its 40 minutes outside of town.

if you're not a muppet contact Ms. Piyaporn out there directly and say you heard about the school from a message board. She lives in town and would meet you at Swensons for a chat.

good luck

actually if anyone meets up with please mention that I (name is user name) lost her number with my old sim card and to give me a call. She's a hoot. Very entertaining.

I'm contractually obligated to a university up north until September, but I'm seriously considering making a move to the south.

As far as I know, there aren't any universities in Krabi....is this correct?

Are there many hotels that take on farangs as full time staff? If a teacher didn't want to live at the hotel, what would the wage be for a teacher with above average qualifications?

Thanks.
