SUSPECTED AUSTRALIAN SUICIDE AT PATTAYA CONDOMINIUM

After drinking a complete bottle of whisky, early in the morning of April 6, 2008, a distressed Australian man apparently committed suicide by hanging himself from some iron ladders on the 19th Floor roof-deck of a Jomtien condominium. Foul play is not suspected.

After receiving notification of the death, at 4.50am, on April 6, Pattaya Pol.Lt.Col. Anuchet Gardsomboon sent an investigative team out to View Talay Condominium A, Project 2, Jomtien Beach, jointly led by Superintendent Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, and Pol.Maj. Withaya Yuenyong from Dongtan Station.

The team, accompanied by Sawang Boriboon Rescue, found the dead Australian, Mr. John Peter Pace (46), wearing a white shirt and grey, ¾ -length trousers, hanging by a cable from the iron ladders of the water tank. On the ground below, an empty whisky bottle, a glass, a soda bottle, a pack of cigarettes, a lighter, an empty pack of medicine and a pair of shoes were found. Pattaya Police, at this stage, do not suspect foul play.

Mr. Chainarong Pinbpa, (37), the condominium security guard, told police that at around 3.30am during his patrol, he had seen Mr. Pace wandering around on the roof-deck area; a prohibited area. He then informed the head guard to request Mr. Pace to go back to his room on the 18th floor. He had previously noticed that Mr. Pace was living alone and somewhat disturbed. Later, Mr. Chainarong went up to check the roof-deck again and found Mr. Pace had hanged himself from the iron ladders of the water tank and immediately informed the police.

Police assumed that Mr. Pace was stressed-out from undisclosed personal problems and had apparently committed suicide because it was all becoming too intense. Police will send the deceased's body to the forensic laboratory at the Police Hospital for examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Australian hangs himself at View Talay Condominium Project 2.

Police Major Anuchaert from Dongtan Police Sub-Station was called to View Talay Project 2, Building A just before Daybreak on Sunday to investigate an apparent suicide of a foreign resident.

Police were directed to the 18th floor roof area by Khun Chainarom aged 37, a security guard who discovered the victim. Police inspected the body of Mr. Josh Patel aged 46, an Austalian National. He had apparently hung himself using electric cable to a steel ladder leading to water tanks on the roof of the building.

Near the body the victim’s shoes, a bottle of whisky which had been partially consumed a glass full of whisky and an empty packet of tablets were found. Khun Chainarom explained that just after midnight the man was spotted on the roof, smoking a cigarette.

He appeared agitated and was told to leave by Security Guards, who discovered his body some hours later. The body of Mr. Patel was removed and taken to Bangkok for a post mortem examination.

Police have recorded the death as a suicide and the Australian Embassy in Bangkok have been made aware of the death.

Libya 115 says:

There is a conflict here with regards the name of the suicide victim. The Pattaya City News name him as Mr. Josh Patel, yet the Pattaya Daily News name him as Mr. John Peter Pace.

So there is one of the above said individuals walking the streets of Pattaya alive................

The man left a note which stated his name and room number. I did not publish the room number but his name is definetly Josh Patel and not John Pace as I saw the piece of paper with my own eyes. Sorry for the confusion.

SUICIDE Capital of the world it would seem

More like SUICIDE MADE TO BE NEWS STORY capital of the world.

Every suicide or attempted suicide in which the police are called to a location is routinely a front page daily headline.

This happens in Pattaya and no other city that I know of.
