Any Northern soul fans, keeping the faith in Pattaya area?

I used to DJ at 100 club many years ago, thinking

of organising a monthly event in pattaya area...

For the un-aware Northern soul is 60's/70's rare soul music,

has had (and still has) a huge underground following in the uk

for decades (Very popular in Northern clubs),

If there are a few stompers around, let me know....

I never quite made Wigan casino or the twisted wheel, but i made it every Friday to the local Northern Soul club. It had and still has a hel_l of a following in my town for us old gits.

Good luck with your venture and please post the dates here. I am in Bangkok but often go to pattaya.

Cheers, Rick

I kind of missed that train - was more into the 80 house music scene, Marshell Jefferson, frankie Knuckles and the likes.

My mate at work use to D.J northern Soul back in Madchester and is an avid collector of the wax.

If your ever in Phuket i will be more than happy to give you about 3,000 + Mp3 Northern Soul tracks he recently gave me.

Am starting to hear what all the craze was about.

Love it! But that's just another source of frustration, since none of the bars plays any. In fact, plain ol' rock 'n' roll has become an endangered species in Pattaya, only found in a few places now.

Go to the Outback Bar on Soi Arunothai (soi entrance is opposite Carre Four) and ask to speak with Simon who is the manager or Ivan. They are looking to run a northern soul night each week. Ivan is a big fan of he genre but if you have tracks he would be very happy to speak with you.

If you're looking for reminiscences - Roaring Twenties in Carnaby Street in the late fifties / start of the sixties.

Remember when Ray Charles was touring UK, he and the Raylettes were down there every free moment - used to get stoned just breathing the air.

But all that vinyl has been lost in a hundred moves from house to house - country to country.

Ohhh Wigan Casino All-nighter Northern Soul Disco - I dreamt of going but my Parents would never let me go, oops, giving my age away now lol. Northern Soul music certainly brings back good memories for me. They had a Northern Soul night at Ice Skating in Blackpool many years ago, it was great...

My music collections "disappeared" also, was talking with someone last week who had never moved house for the past 30 + years, he still had all his original record collections!

Dead give away to people ages, I never went to Wigan Casino - I was a "rocker" :o

  • 1 month later...
Cannot get the song out of my head now - "there's a Ghost in my house, i cant hide" la la la la. Fading memories of days gone by !!!! those were the good old days.

Tune indeed....

Just joined and following up on this ---

What about in Bangkok? Latin, funk, soul, Brazilian - where, and if not, why not?

Anyone interested in getting something together here?
