A Worried Newbie

Hi, I have been viewing these threads for a while now, but i could do with some advise.

I have known my Fiancee for about six months now. I Have been to Thailand twice where i have spent the whole time with her. We got engaged the second time i went last month. We hope to apply for a settlement visa after christmas, and have many photos, e-mails etc, i have also met some of her family. The big problem is that she is a bar girl in Pattaya, although she will be giving it up soon.

I know there have been many things said about bar girls, but i need to know if we have any chance at all of getting a visa, considering her present job. I want to marry her so that is not a problem. I was going to try for a holiday visa first, but reading previous threads, i think this will be impossible. Will the visa officer say no straight away? and if so is there any thing else that can be done or said which will help us. Many thanks!

One point, If you've known her six months theres a good chance they won't even accept the application, they normally like a year onwards.

The fact that your fiancée works in a go-go bar will have little bearing upon the success or failure of her application. In other threads I have posted the rules which she will need to satisfy and I'm too bone-idle to post 'em again. However, should she fulfil the rules then she will get the visa irrespective of what her background is. The only rule open to interpretation is the one about intention to permanently live together. There is no requirement that she has to have known you a certain length of time but, as a general rule, the longer the better.

Basically, there is no rule that says bar girls need not apply and your fiancée stands as good a chance as any at getting the visa.

Has she been outside of Thailand before or has she friends who have?

I know girls in Pattaya who have two or three boyfriends and make a couple of overseas trips a year.

One I know who seems a very nice girl has been to germany with one guy and sweden with another this year ,and a couple of her friends the same (soi8 gals).

If you get a three mth visa for her thats cool ,manyof these girls just dream of getting out of thailand but once they are out they really miss the food,tv,friends and family.

You need to talk all these things thru with her next time you see her.

As far as i can tell she is o.k, we are in contact every day and she has never been out of Thailand, i have just recently got her a passport, ready for if we try and get visa! I'm from Yorkshire, England

I have a few friends in Thailand and they are seasoned visitors, and they all think she is on the level with me, but i have read many stories already, about what these girls can be like, so i guess some of it is going to be a gamble, but who doesn't take a gamble with any woman these days. Thanks for your input it is well recieved by myself.

Good luck to you mate, statistics certainly aren't on your side but nothing you've said guarantees she's a wrongun whatever anyone says.

One thing I will say though is that I will never understand why someone would want to marry someone who they have only spent a short time with. This could be said for anyone but also you have to consider the cultural differences between a man from Yorkshire and a girl from Pattaya.

My advice to anyone in your situation is if you're really that serious about the girl why not try to save some cash, take some time off work and spend some time with her over here. Better to find out that way than go through the hassle of getting her to England marrying her and finding out then that it's not a good idea.

the best advice is and and will be forever: wait another year before you get married! Go see her, yes. Don't send any money though! Don't even spend any money on her - that way you will find out soon enough whether it's the money or you that she really likes!

don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Thai girls, but if you pick up a tom in Leeds, the last thing you would be thinking about is proposing marrage, come back over, find a nice girl your mum would be proud of. It will all end in tears, you mark my words!!
