nogutsnoapplepie
Beijing, Nov 24. (AP):Chinese and Thai police have arrested eight members of a cross-border drug trafficking gang and seized 463 kg of heroin, the Chinese government said today. The gang members were arrested in Thailand and China's south-western province of Yunnan in September and October, state television said, citing the Public Security Ministry. It said USD 250,000 in cash also was seized. The Chinese gang leader, Liu Gangyi, was arrested on Oct. 29 in Bangkok and returned to Yunnan, the ministry said. It said others were caught in Kunming, the provincial capital of Yunnan. The case highlighted growing anti-drug cooperation between China and its Southeast Asian neighbours, which until recently were wary of each other and had little official interaction. In an unusual step, the ministry said a team of Chinese police were sent to Thailand to join in the "hunt for leading drug traffickers." The arrests came amid a Chinese government anti-drug crackdown in which police have arrested 10,537 suspects and seized 6.3 tonnes of drugs, including 3.15 tonnes of heroin, the report said. China began asking its Southeast Asian neighbours for help in 2001 and has since carried out a series of cross-border investigations. http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/holnus/...00411241415.htm

Typical.Daveyo <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As the movie "Traffic" pointed out, there will always be someone to import/deal drugs as the profit potential is so enormous. Even with the death penalty, somebody is willing to take the risk to become rich, just the way it is.
