I have had UBC connected at my house for about 2 1/2 months and am at the end of my tether regarding choices of watchable sport. I am sick of seeing Boring F****ing soccer on all 6 of the sport channels. Surely there are other sports that appeal to the viewing public. How do I get to see some cricket now and aussie rules and rugby league in winter.

Any suggestions on watching some decent sport.

c'mon toastwars, give us a break, the guy is after some specific info.

Soccer gives we the wilt too.I don't mind a bit of it, but not all the time. I have heard that there is a South African satalite channel that can be purchased for about THB3500/ month. Shows all cricket and rugby test matches. No league though. I'll try and find out. The bloke that I know who has it is out of the country for a month, so when he returns I'll ask him.

toastie the brighton thing had me wondering, but my mission on TV is to help members, you must know how bad it would be if catch me kiss me was your only option on television.

I don't watch television here, don't even own one, so I know not of what you speak,My suggestion was valid but said in a tongue in cheek way, there are many sports clubs here and sitting in front of a tv all night is not my idea of fun, maybe the op may ake my suggestion and have a ###### good time, maybe not, up to him really.

so chill a little

I am assuming that he doesnt live in Bkk and his only television link is UBC and he cant join a sports club because they dont have one there or he may be age challenged or even physically challenged and his only entertaiment maybe a television, I assume you made a different assessment toastie

Joining a sports club sounds good but living out in the sticks and only possessing a small motorbike does make it a bit difficult to find one in the vicinity. The closes major town being about 70 ks away. I was only trying to find out if someone else encountered the same problem as me and had found a solution. I dont mind watching a little bit of soccer but with 6 sport channels on UBC I would have thought that there would have been a greater range of sport other than soccer to be watched.

I shall just keep on monitoring this forum to see if someone can help me with my problem.

UBC is absolutely boring. I keep CNN on, sometimes switch to BBC.

Sports is not existing anymore, unless you like to watch English football live, Usually, two teams you never heard of before.

Nothing against the English league, but who needs 7-8 games on a weekend?

Show a few top-games and I will enjoy.

Talking about footbal. What about the German Bundesliga? Used to have one Saturday- and one Sunday-game live. Spanish La Liga, French?? Nothing really.

Last night on a local channel showed the under 19 world champion ship football, ladies from Bangkok. For some great fun, for UBC?

Aussie-rules? Even US-sports with all the world champion ships usually played by two US-teams?

What does UBC stand for? United British casting?

Yes they are way too euro content focused with soccer

But then I guess thats the Thai market.

Cant stand it when i go into a bar and the BG comes up and says what name u?

I say David

They smile and say David Beckham.

I say who???

Confuses the shit out them.

Well I have 4 UBC sport channels and I too am tired of so much soccer.

But I get to see US NBA action, NFL football, Pool and Snooker, Golf and Tennis as well. So I am quite happy.

There are other things I have no use for like motor racing, but with all the above mentioned, I am quite surprised that I have all this here in BKK.

Sounds like it is rugby and cricket you crave and do not get enough of. If I were out in the boonies, I would get the satellite option going to provide more diversity if you can afford it. I know there are a lot of free channels up there to be seen although not in English.

Sorry but I do not believe the facts support your argument.

Outside of soccer and BBC World what else on UBC could be described as U British Casting? Very little in my opinion

The occasional movie (granted very few are made in the UK these days) and once in a while a programme on UBC series. All of the other non-Thai channnels appear to show mainly US produced programmes. (Hardly surprising in my opinion but not Euro centric)

As for soccer. Yes the English Premier League is the supposed jewel in the crown of ESPN/Star's sports programming. Why because folks around Asia, and here i mean locals, want to watch it. Take a look occasionally when ESPN broadcasts live from a off studio location in Singapore and Hong Kong the place is full of locals.

For Spanish . Italian and German, even South American soccer you will have to

change channels but it is there for all to see and live (at least one game from each league with round up programmes for the three European leagues.

However ESPN in general is hardly Eurocentric. Again hardly surprising considering its home base. They show 2 NFL games live each week. At least 2 more are shown live on other UBC channels. Baseball and basketball from the us is shown live on a regular basis. ESPN carried all games in the recent baseball playoffs live.

Rugby Union internationals are shown live or when conflicting with EPL soccer tape delayed, but that works for me. Super 12 coverage has declined in the last few years.

So too has the Aussie Rugby League which a couple of years ago was on weekly- usually featuring the Melbourne Storm.

Cricket coverage is somewhat sporadic and usually on in the we hours of the orning idf at all but is shown extensively on ESPN's India channel.

In addition I see Formula 1 , Boxing, NASCAR or whatever oval track racing, US Ice Skating championships, volleyball both beach and the indoor variety.badminton, ten pin bowling, pool, darts, snooker, boxing

Golf ad nauseum from the US, European and sometimes Asian circuit, tennis especially if Paradorn is playing and numerous other sports I could mention but you of course could take a look at the UBC programme guide to be confirmed that it is a full variety.

I would not consider it to be Euro or British focused.

I think that we complain too much about UBC particulalry if we enjoy sports. They cover most sports to some extent and I think that they try to offer what the market wants and soccer is number one in Thailand

We each seem to compalin that our particular team is not playing and thus coverage is poor.

I would guess to cover all of our teams we would need a dozen or more sports channels.

To comment on the op point that Aussie Rules and Rugby League do not feature, actually Aussie sports in general. I would agree but they did not so long ago. either contracts were lost or not renewed due to lack of perceived interest from the market.

Your present option would be to invest in the satellite as discussed or poip along to the numerous bars, well at least in bangkok, which do show them on a regular basis

If you want Aussie Rules ABC Asia Pacific is your best option. They show 5 games per week which are delayed by about 3 hours. Most of the 400 or so illegal cable opperators run ABC Asia Pacific. If this is not available in your area you will have to go the satellite option where you can pick it up from the satellite that covers the Phillepines. Set up cost of this is from 16000 baht upwards and there is no monthly subscription charge. Cricket is not widely covered . There is some on the Indian Channels and some of the cable opperators where showing the South African Super Sport Channels which has the Channel 9 and Fox coverage. The South African Super Sport Channels however seam to be dissapearing over legal issues regarding piracy.Basically if your prepared to spend the baht and put up a big enough dish you can pick up all of the satellites with footprints that cover your area. Subscriber cards are also available for non free to air Channels from satellite shops in Bangkok. Good Luck Mate.

I haven't seen much in the way of Aussie football/rugby or cricket. If you want something different than football, try Muay Thai. You can catch some fights from 5 to 7pm on Tuesday evenings channel 31 with the same show repeated on Wednesday mornings at 10am. For regular Thai channels, try channel 7 at 1:45 or 2pm on Sundays...great Muay Thai matches from Bangkok with excellent coverage. Also, around 1:30 or so on Sundays you can catch Muay Thai on channel 9. I think the channel 7 show is the better one though.
