Slow Internet!

So, I used the thai visa internet speed test and came up with this result:

Download Speed: 60 kbps (7.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 60 kbps (7.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

<deleted>! My local area connection shows I'm at 100 Mbps.

I use TOT and pay around 690 baht a month.

Why am I getting "dial up" performance?

Impossible to trouble-shoot...could be many things:

1.) Bad line, can you share your DSL connection statistics (margin, attenuation), typically available in the modem/router's management UI. Do you use a splitter? Maybe remove that and try. Any other wall jacks? Is there a lot of noise when you lift the hand-set?

2.) Are you sharing the line? Can someone piggy-back on it? (via WiFi)

3.) Are you running any concurrent applications?

4.) Does the performance vary thoughout a typical day?

5.) Where are you testing the speed? I recommend a local (Thailand) tester. www dot adslthailand dot com has one.

6.) Have you contacted TOT? They can typically test the line while you are on the phone.

1) good joke :o

2) check your synchro in the modem/routeur and see if they match the connection you pay for(on paper) if they match, the problem is the provider bandwith, i woudln't xpect much from TOT as they are the worst for internet in thailand...

This is only the speed of the connection between your computer and the router on your desk. Consider it like having a super fast sports car but you can only drive as fast as the rest of the traffic on the road allows you do. The connection provided by your ISP, from your router out to the rest of the internet is probably the limiting factor, this is where your 60k is coming from. Continuing the road/traffic analogy, there is a super fast highway with vehicles going really fast between The USA and Japan, you want to drive your car on that highway to get data from the US - but to get there you have to use the slow congested sois provided in Thailand to get to Japan. Got the picture? Edited by Cuban

Don't want to start a new topic - What the hel_l is with TOT today? Am I alone having speed issues again? I even can't do a speed test - it's not downloading...

My TOT in Bangkok seems very slow today.

My TOT in Phuket seems very slow today too! :o

TOT even slower today, I'm running the Thaivisa speed and if i leave it for 20 minutes it starts the speedtest, and i'm getting a fantastic peak of "10" kbps! (I'm on a 1mbps connection)

Called TOT; answer "don't worry, we already fixed the problem yesterday"
