Expatmummy85
Hi There, I am a young mum(early 20s) living in Bangkok with my husband and 20 month old son. We are originally from Australia but moved to Bangkok for my husbands engineering job. I have been finding it particuarly hard to make friends here and as a result i am rather lonely. I initially made friends through a lady at Bambi but then she turned nasty towards me and i have been to afraid to return to any bambi events of playgroups for the past year. I feel i have been ostracised from her and all her friends. I take my son to school, gymboree and swimming lessons but have not found that anyone is overly interested in talking to me. I fear people may not want to befriend me because of my age. I am wondering if anyone knows of any groups that may help me make friends or any other means that may ease my loneliness in Bangkok. My son would love to have some little play mates and i would appreciate someone to have coffee with. Thank you
JohnC
I dont know about Bangkok but it might be worth contacting a group here in Pattaya to find out if there are similar groups in Bangkok , the PILC (Pattaya International Ladies Committee) is very active with lunch clubs, charity work etc so get in touch http://www.pattaya-pilc.com/
p_brownstone
Perhaps join The British Club? http://www.britishclubbangkok.org/ You don't have to be British. They have a nice Pool and other facilities and lots of activities. Patrick
bkkmei
Hiya Bambi has loads of members so I wouldn't be turned off going to their playgroups just cos of one person! How about also trying groups such as Bangkok Network of Women http://www.bnow.org/index.html or the Australian New Zealand Women's Group http://www.anzwg-bangkok.org/ (although I haven't a clue if the age range suits you) also, why not take some Thai language lessons to help ease you into life here, and get to know some classmates? Maybe do some volunteering like English teaching at Goodwill? hope it helps.

We have moved here about 3months ago with a 3yr old son. Been meaning to socialize with some mother-toddler group but dont know where to start or where to find them tbh. I'm sure there will be some in Bangkok similar to PILC. Would love to hangout with you. Normally me and my kid go to Lumpini Park on a Sunday maybe we could meet up there or somewhere, my son likes going to park and playgrounds also dont know where we could find a good wacky warehouse here same as you get in the UK. We only go to Emporium every now and then as it is now far away from Ratchada. Anyway give me a ring or text when you get sometime and want to meet up. Here is my number: 0890 751 791 A little about myself, I'm 23, I originally came from Philippines. My husband is british we went back to England last year for 7months and back to Philippines again. We both decided to live in Bkk to educate our son here and also he's got some business in the Laos that needs babysitting at the moment so it makes more sense to stay close to the area. We could go for a coffee and a chat, I'd love that too. We dont always have to come out with the babies you know Regards, April Edited December 20, 2008 by aprelle
kannon99
Don't write off all of the BAMBI playgroups. THere are many to try, and just like most playgroups, there will always be "mommy polictics".

Thank you We will possibly be moving to Bangkok in a couple of months, and was hoping to join a playgroup and get to know some moms with small kids around town. If you are still around by the time we make it there I would really like to meet up with you, if that's okey? I would also really appreciate some insiders info on living in Bangkok with small kids.
