Hi, in february/march I would like to come over to thailand, to a muay thai club and learn muay thai

I dont really mind staying at the clubs accomodation, or in a budget guesthouse nearby

Are there any that anyone here has heard good things about?

There are a few that have got flashy websites that have bungalows/deluxe/cheap rooms and offer a variety of courses, but they are all based in the citys (phuket/bankock) and they seem expensive to me. (esp their accomodation and food (150bt per meal :o !) (£3 every meal. i spend half that in uk!)

VERY IMPORTANT: I would like it to be NOT in one of the big citys, needs to be a specialized muay thai camp that thais who take the sport seriously would go to.

Id prefer northern thailand, just since its less touristy (so i hear) and i like the look of the scenery and environment. but recomendations for the south r welcome

Can I do it on £300 a month?? itl be about 5000 baht for a months training. so can i rent cheap aco and food for only £200?

any honest opinions r very welcome

thanks

Mate if you want to do it on the cheap head way up north, east, south or west or even in Bangkok but dont go to a flash "cashed up camp" there are thousands of camps out there and it wont matter if you are the only westerner and dont speak Thai.

The first time I went I spoke about 5 words. You will learn from demonstrations. they will show you what they want. it will be an awesome and should be cheap. You CAN get meals for 20-30bt but often you will go out for a better meal.

Dont need to go upcountry . There so many gyms you can train in Bangkok , Sasiprapa , Rompo , One Songchai ( Bangkok)

Or Scorpion Gym , Sidjitong Gym, and many more in Pattaya

Plenty of places mate. Look at your budget. I would suggest to get away from tourist areas but do you want to train twice a day? If you are not used to that you will be pretty shanked and you wont get to see much of Thailand.

Gym range from 6000 a month to 30 000++ a month.

Work out what YOU want from your trip (100% Fight training, fight traininga nd sight seeing, ladies, party and a little training)

I work fulltime so I only train every second day now and I only pay 4000 a month for 15 - 2hr sessiosn in the Heart of Bangkok

Thanks lads, the advice is much appreciated

tytus, I'd rather train in a "less touristy" place though, at least for the first few weeks to see what its like

Ritti, I've looked at a few online from 6 - 8000, for a month training 6 days a week training twice a day. This is exactly the sort of training regime I am looking for. I have been to india for 4 months travelling, I know what the routine is like.. I'm not looking to do much travelling this time. Just train as hard as possible for 3 or so months, come back to uk for summer, then go back to asia in winter.

I am hoping to train as hard as they will let me

I think its great that they all seem to train you with a 1 on 1 personal trainer.... training all day.. for 150 pound/month. unbelievable really

Do you know if it would be more expensive to live further down south?

Finally.... other than training, i will only be possibly drinking small amount on the day off. If i stayed away from the bars, just trained, jogged all the time, eat, what would you guess would be needed? (£)

Have you ever trained hardcore fulltime? what did you do with your spare time?

best regards

Also something important i forgot to ask. language- firstly is it ok that i dont know any thai whatsoever? second is there lots of thai language teachers? how much would it cost etc?

I know most Full Time Pro fighters either sleeping or surfing the internet while not training lol there's nothing much to do really. All the want is just hardcore training and be the best of the best .

For me no matter where you train its all up to your self discipline and dedication

If you really want hardcore training i suggest you go train at Por Pramuk gym along with Buakaw Por pramuk the K-1 Superstar

If you are serious about training you should consider Chiang mai. The cost of living there is far cheaper than Bangkok. The weather there is much more comfortable and better suited for training. Not to mention Chiang mai itself is a beautiful city with some fantastic landscapes and features.. Try this website
